This September sees Yves Saint Laurent launch YSL Black Opium, the new fragrance announced as a rock’n’roll interpretation of the classic that will highlight the dark, mysterious side of the YSL brand.

Master perfumers Nathalie Lorson and Marie Salamagne, in collaboration with Olivier Cresp and Honorine Blanc, developed the composition. At odds with the heady original Opium scent, launched by Saint Laurent in 1977, Black Opium is a gourmand floral fragrance which opens with a strong coffee bean accord before developing with white flowers, vanilla, cedar and patchouli.

The perfume comes in the bottle designed for the most recent editions of the YSL Opium collection. The bottle is dark and decorated with sequins to give a glam rock look.

The face of the perfume’s campaign is British model Edie Campbell. The ad campaign sees Black Opium come to life via the Black Opium woman who Stephan Bezy, international general manager for YSL Beauty, describes as embodying the brand’s “contemporary codes” (free, unique, femininity that is chic, sensual and brazen, all at once).

Directed by Daniel Wolfe, the film sees the Black Opium woman head out on an expedition to find her missing perfume, crossing Shanghai until she finds her lover and the bottle he has taken. Click here to watch the campaign TV spot http://youtu.be/YtiuSL5tYE8

A print campaign, shot by Mathieu Cesar, will support the film which runs from this month

Black Opium is available as 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.
