He was a brilliant speaker, a cool strategist and a political rejuvenator who was revered like a pop star. Born near Boston on 29 May 1917 and shaped by his father‘s saying, “We want only winners in this family”, John F. Kennedy carved out an unparalleled political career following his studies at Harvard and his time as an officer in the U.S. Navy. Though allowed only a short time as president, John F. Kennedy was a mover of world history and still stands as not only one of the most influential and popular American presidents, but also as a symbolic figure for a political philosophy embracing progress and new beginnings.
In honour of the man born to be a leader of international stature, Montblanc created the Special Edition John F. Kennedy, as well as the Limited Edition 1917. Commemorating one of the most revered figures of modern history, the Special Edition John F. Kennedy makes symbolic references to the life of J. F. Kennedy in subtle design details. The blue precious resin refers to Kennedy’s time in the U.S. Navy. His initials “JFK” are engraved in the platinum-plated clip, and the three platinum-plated cap rings stand for Kennedy’s three brothers.
In tribute to the national hopes and dreams embodied in Kennedy’s pet project, the Apollo space programme, the handcrafted 585 gold nib is engraved with the lunar module that landed on the moon in 1969. Available as fountain pen, ballpoint pen and rollerball, the Special Edition is crowned with the Montblanc emblem in moon quartz, reflecting his vision to get a man to the moon.
One of J. F. Kennedy’s favourite pastimes was sailing off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts – a sport with a class and style all of its own. The John F. Kennedy Limited Edition 1917, available as fountain pen, ballpoint pen and rollerball, is inspired by the accoutrements of sailing, with the pattern beneath the lacquer surface recalling boating rope and the 750 gold nib engraved with the lifesaver from Kennedy’s sailboat the “Victura”.
Kennedy’s service to his country is remembered in the star of the U.S. Navy on the cone, as well as the colours of the American flag: red, white and blue. In reference to the presidential campaign Kennedy won in 1960, the motto “A time for greatness” is engraved on the cap ring. Limited to 1,917 pieces in memory of the year John F. Kennedy was born, the Edition honours a man remembered as a world leader in times of international tension.
