Rémy Cointreau Global Travel Retail (GTR) and Gebr. Heinemann have teamed up to bring “the art of the mix” to Copenhagen International Airport for a Cointreau activation filled to the brim with the panache and exuberance of the French Golden Age of Arts – the era that defined Cointreau as a reference for cocktails. With the 170th anniversary in the air, the orange liquor is more than ever at the heart of cocktails.
The activation’s key feature is a piano cocktail bar – the first of its kind in travel retail. Throughout April, during days of peak travel, a pianist will act as a musical mixologist, formulating Cointreau cocktails by striking corresponding piano keys linked to specific ingredients.
Located in the Heinemann shop in Terminal 2, the circular pop-up bar invites literally 360 degrees of engagement, from the pianist and his unique cocktail-constructing instrument on one end to the vintage half-moon bar on the other. Bottles of Cointreau and various ingredients hover over the glossy black piano, connected to tubes that meet in a glass perched on the music rack, waiting to receive each refreshing Cointreau infusion. The mix of Cointreau’s iconic vibrant orange hues, the handsome contrast of light and dark wood and the retro vinyl flooring inject Copenhagen Airport with a unique atmosphere.
While the pianist entertains clients and serves up non-shaken cocktails, a bartender will offer tastings of Cointreau Fizz and other classic Cointreau cocktails. With this activation, Cointreau is inviting clients to “be part of the mix”, showcasing all its signature cocktails for sampling.
Jean-Denis Voin, CEO L&S Rémy Cointreau, said: “With Cointreau, a simple cocktail becomes an extraordinary one! We are proud to create this extraordinary client retail experience with Gebr. Heinemann. Cointreau is a leading brand in the liquors category and unavoidable in airports shelves around the world.”
Sebastien Devallet, Managing Director Americas & EMEA, Rémy Cointreau Global Travel Retail, commented: “Born in the wake of French Golden Age of Arts, when French culture and art spread around the world, Cointreau profoundly believes in the power of creativity and audacity. Through Le Cocktail Show, we are bringing emotion and artistic energy to the travel retail experience. We wanted to create something unexpected with ce-je-ne-sais-quoi – something that makes travellers stop, listen and share in the quintessential Cointreau cocktail experience. We truly appreciate Gebr. Heinemann’s ongoing support and efforts in helping us to consistently deliver fresh ways to surprise our clients.”
Rüdiger Stelkens, Director Purchasing Liquor Tobacco Confectionery and Fine Food at Gebr. Heinemann, added: “Gebr. Heinemann is honored to be the first partner for Le Cocktail Show at Copenhagen Airport with such a unique activation. The piano cocktail bar is one of the most exciting concepts that we’ve implemented in this space, and it’s been received with such awe and delight from travellers. It goes beyond traditional retail entertainment, connecting with customers on a more emotional level and providing an experience and lasting memories for our shoppers, which is what we aim to bring them every day.”
The Cointreau piano cocktail will run until the end of April, with more exciting chapters of Le Cocktail Show to roll out across global travel retail later in the year.
