A new Gem is born. 130 square meters of magnificence just opened its doors in the heart of Zurich Airport, the results of the strong collaboration between Bvlgari, Avolta and Zurich Airport Ltd.
Since 1884, Bvlgari has always found a favoured source of inspiration in the monuments and architectural treasures of Rome: sunlight, marbles and magnificent architecture. Italian design is renowned worldwide for its beauty in its form, the audacity with which precious materials, colours and craftsmanship are combined, the relationship between ancient and modern, tradition and innovation, qualities that characterize the Bvlgari interior design concept today. This store design concept embodies a vision of contemporary Rome while paying tribute to the city’s rich heritage spanning centuries. Historically, renowned artists and architects have used materials such as marble and travertine to create enduring monuments, buildings, and statues that remain as relevant and beautiful today as they were in the past.
“Today, we are proud to open a new temple in a key European airport. We will be able to welcome our worldwide clients, offer them a glimpse of Rome and let them discover our latest creations during their visit at Zurich Airport in an environment reflecting our entire DNA and hospitality values.” says Gabriele Arlotta, Director of Bvlgari Travel Retail Europe.
This new boutique is a real journey into 2’700 years of Roman history and it starts by an imperial green marble Pelmet which features the brand Roman lettered iconic logo. Green is a symbolic color deeply embedded in the brand’s identity. Inspired by the vibrant hues of Bvlgari gemstones and its historical significance as an ancient Roman symbol of victory and honor, green is prominently featured throughout the brand. The use of green marble adorns both the exterior and interior of Bvlgari stores worldwide, reinforcing this timeless connection.
The iconic Bvlgari eight-pointed star located at the entrance of the store welcomes our travellers. This symbol comes from the via Condotti store and is a universal symbol of balance, harmony and cosmic order, the eight lines are symbolic of the four cardinal points (North, South, East, West) and time (two solstices and two equinoxes). According to the famous legend, the star means “Roma Caput Mundi”, meaning that all the routes lead to Rome.
When entering the store, you will directly notice the shape of the countertop that is inspired by the elegant Cabochon cut, traces back to the 1960s when Bvlgari started introducing it in the Jewellery designs, somewhat contrary to the prevailing trends. Crafted from the iconic Roman stone Travertino Navona this furniture recalls the link between past and present and how the brand is always eternally reborn in its design. The Orange Luce di Roma lining reflects the magical and evocative light of Rome, that has long inspired Bvlgari.
The Serpenti Chandelier by Venini in Murano glass, an Italian factory since 1920, celebrates one of Bvlgari’s icons. Serpenti represents uniqueness as well as the harmonious continuity between Bvlgari’s Greco-Roman heritage and contemporary design, since the 1940s. The custom design composed of about 300 crystal wands, fashioned in triedri shapes, are meticulously crafted by the master artisans of Venice.
The fluted walls, with their vertical grooves, remind us of Roman columns that stood strong centuries ago. They recall the grandeur of ancient Rome and its enduring influence. These simple yet elegant architectural features connect the past with the present, adding a touch of Roman history to the space.
Artwork pieces by the iconic pop artist Andy Warhol are displayed inside the shop to add a touch of colour and highlight the connection he had with the brand during the ’70s and ’80s. Warhol did not only see Bvlgari jewellery as status symbols but also as integral parts of contemporary culture deserving of artistic examination. He famously once quoted, “For me, calling at a Bvlgari shop is like visiting the best exhibition of contemporary art,” and “I think your jewellery is art, and I just adore it.”
Bvlgari strives to bring Italian refined elegance, unique craftmanship and exceptional materials and quality in order to enhance the overall client’s experience and to bring hospitality to the next level by crafting an inviting, immersive journey and shopping experience.
