Travelling single-malt fans have another reason to be excited as a new CRAIGELLACHIE expression is released as part of the Exceptional Cask Series, the family of limited-edition malts chosen by malt master Stephanie Macleod. The release is exclusive to travel retail and only available in Dufry stores, such as World Duty Free at UK airports.
CRAIGELLACHIE 27 Year Old Double Cask will go on shelf from June this year exclusively with Dufry, priced at $2,500 per bottle.
Distilled in 1994, the 44.9% ABV Speyside single-malt was finished in a brandy cask and is limited to just 156 bottles. The resulting brooding, complex whisky boasts fruit flavours such as pineapple and apricot, balanced with leathery and waxy notes. CRAIGELLACHIE 27 Year Old Double Cask is non-chill-filtered and has no caramel colouring added.
The release of CRAIGELLACHIE 27 Year Old Double Cask and the new CRAIGELLACHIE 37 Year Old Bourbon Cask cement the distillery’s rising reputation within travel retail for intriguing high-end expressions that will surely attract the interest of malt connoisseurs. Famed for its meaty, muscular style created by the distillery’s use of old-fashioned worm tub condensers and oil-fired malted barley, Craigellachie has won numerous awards since being first promoted as a single-malt in 2014.
“At a time when older aged malt releases in duty-free are increasingly rare, CRAIGELLACHIE has released another stunning expression, exclusively for our valued retail partner Dufry,” said Bacardi Global Travel Retail Global Head of Marketing Ignacio Vazquez. “To be able to release such old whiskies just underlines the amazing strength of our aged malt inventory and the growing appeal of our Exceptional Cask Series.”
Tasting Notes: A brooding and complex whisky with pineapple and apricot-in-syrup flavours, balanced with waxy and leathery notes.
