Desigual goes back to its Barcelona roots

The new collection from Desigual goes back to its roots and reinvents itself, drawing inspiration from the vibrant, fun and multicultural city of Barcelona, where the brand’s story first began in 1984.

Change is in the air for Desigual with the SS2016 collection, updated with new fabrics and finishes such as blonde lace and the combination of knits and wool. The colour palette of green, blue yellow, red, black and white evokes the Mediterranean and Barcelona’s traditions. The aesthetic of the ‘60s and ‘70s features heavily this season, bringing with it fun pinafore dresses and folk-style ponchos. Sophisticated details like broach buttons or jewelled collars add a touch of glamour to coats and dresses, which range from lingerie-inspired styles and watercolour-effect floral prints to chic kaftans. Also new is a range of prints inspired by the geometric compositions of the tiled floors in Barcelona.

The Exotic Jeans offering – comprising pants, jackets and skirts – is given a makeover with details such as sequins, beads and mirrors, as well as brushstrokes that characterise urban art and dripping effects. The epitome of cruise ship elegance, the SS2016 Desigual by Monsieur Christian Lacroix collection is marked by white, black and pearl grey colours, with a focus on minimalist offerings such as plain basics, prints against a monochrome background and black & white combinations.

Desigual has also been exploring new patterns, designs and fabrics for the SS2016 accessories collection – which includes bags, wallets, belts, scarves and jewellery – with special attention paid to the intricate details that enhance the pieces.

Natural shades of cherry, leafy green, sandy yellow, deep blue and pure black & white make up the colour palette this season, and this is complemented by a whole new generation of materials. Natural fibres like ramie cotton (for foulards), or technological ones like neoprene, enhance items with sophisticated textures.

This season’s jewellery offering draws heavily from nature, capturing the spirit of summer with two collections: a ‘Tutti Fruitti’ range of necklaces, bracelets and earrings, designed with natural desiccated fruit and refreshing colours; and an ocean-inspired line in iridescent and coral tones.
