Estee Lauder to open beauty boutique at Detroit Metro airport

Style-conscious travellers passing through the McNamara terminal at Detroit Metropolitan Airport will soon be able to shop the first Estee Lauder “Beauty Boutique” in the U.S.The Wayne County Airport Authority and store operator World Duty Free Group (WDFG) have announced that the Estee Lauder boutique will open in the McNamara terminal’s Central Link in June.

The airport authority cited recent surveys showing that 51 percent of travelers passing through Detroit Metro Airport are women, pointing out the need for more shopping options directed at them.

The new boutique will feature not only Estee Lauder brand cosmetics, skin care and fragrances, but also products made by the other beauty companies Estee Lauder owns, such as Aramis, Clinique, Origins, M-A-C, La Mer,, Aveda, Jo Malone London, Michael Kors, Tom Ford Beauty, Smashbox, Ermenegildo Zegna, Bobbi Brown, Donna Karan and Tommy Hilfiger. The space also will include a central lounge offering light refreshments.

The products featured will be much like the beauty giant’s lines carried at high-end department stores, but there will be more sets put together specifically for travellers. Those will include mini makeup palettes from Bobbi Brown, travel-size skin care products from Estee Lauder and Clinique, and gift-sized fragrances.

Antonin Carreau, global head of beauty at WDFG, said there also will be speedy beauty services available for time-pressed travelers, some taking as little as three minutes to complete. Mini services will include a La Mer skin care tutorial, Bobbi Brown makeup lessons and a lesson in the art of fragrance-combining with Jo Malone products.

The 5,320-square-foot Beauty Boutique will be at the beginning of the McNamara terminal’s Central Link so passengers will see it as soon as they come through the TSA checkpoints.
