Nice Cote d’Azur airport, France’s second busiest airport, has opened a new duty-free shopping area in its Terminal 2.

As with the new Terminal 1, which was finalised in May 2016, it is now time for Terminal 2 to open its new passenger route, initially with a single security check area, accompanied by a new intersecting duty-free shop.

Measuring 1,860m², which represents 279% more surface area, the new unified security check area offers passengers an increasingly fluid and simple route through Terminal 2.

All these developments are now part of a logical optimisation of the passenger route. As in Terminal 1, the areas of said comfort in Terminal 2 (seating and ease of passenger traffic) have been significantly increased (13,237m², an increase of 88%). The VIP lounges are already more spacious (1,415m², an increase of 144%) and the redesigned Business Centre in Terminal 2 has reopened its doors. Lastly, the shops and restaurants will have almost doubled their surface area (3,706m², an increase of 162%) by the end of 2017.

Therefore, to access the departure lounges, passengers will now pass through a large duty-free shop operated by LAGARDERE TRAVEL RETAIL under the retail brand name of Aelia Duty Free.

It is because of the “Playful New Luxury” concept that this new shop opens its doors to the airport on 9 February. The 840m² oasis is
home to gastronomy, confectionery, perfumes, cosmetics, wines, champagnes and premium spirits. Bobbi Brown, Bourjois, Benefit, Caudalie… a wide range of cosmetics and skin care products will be reserved for passengers from far and wide.

New brands are also making their appearance, with the likes of Crème de la mer, Jo Malone and Filorga.

Fragrance lovers will burst at the sight of bottles designed by By Kilian, Dyptique, Amouage or Serge Lutens, as well as private collections by Tom Ford and Elie Saab. Let’s not forget the most prestigious perfume house of the Côte d’Azur, Fragonard, which, under a ceiling of suspended peonies, you will discover and be able to create your own perfume in a remarkable laboratory of scents. Further on, passengers will also find the expertise of the three iconic brands of French luxury, Chanel, Dior, Guerlain… in their dedicated corner; or passengers can enjoy the exclusive “express” beauty services for nails and the possibility of a blow-dry before departure in the Hair & Nail Bar by Éric Zemmour. Finally, they will be immersed in the
atmosphere of the Cote d’Azur, enjoying the latest cocktails of some of the most renowned brands.

After their shopping session, passengers within Terminal 2 will be able to succumb to the delicious corners dedicated to M&M’S and the macaroons of Pascal Lac, chosen amongst the twenty best chocolatiers in France by the famous “Club des Croqueurs de Chocolat” [Chocolate Appreciation Society].

Throughout the spring and before the summer of 2017, new shops will also open in room A, Schengen. Alongside room B, non-Schengen, the work also continues. With time, the planned extension will enable the establishment of additional shops and restaurants within the departure lounge, whereby Nice Côte d’Azur Airport will offer a total of 68 shops and restaurants throughout the two terminals.

“After the complete renewal of Terminal 1 last year, the opening of this new optimised single control check area, offering even more security and fluidity, marks a new milestone in the establishment of a platform which forms part of our region’s image. We are always focused on the satisfaction of our passengers and improvement of the competitiveness that we offer to airlines, as we are the only ones in France to offer drastic reductions in fees”, highlights Dominique Thillaud, CEO of Aéroports de la Côte d’Azur.

“In opening this new route within Terminal 2, we are able to culminate our vision ‘to offer the most remarkable experience within a European airport’ with an emphasis on ‘sense of place’ and with brands such as Fragonard, L’Occitane, Lac, Gas – very much related to the Riviera, which will complement our existing offer of essential products related to travel or to France”, says Filip Soete, Director of the Commercial Business Unit.

The airport is advising passengers to arrive at the airport earlier during their first flights with this new configuration, to allow time to get used to these new locations.
