CoverGirl is set to release a Star Wars themed makeup line in September – giving fans a few months to master their looks before the December release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The film – which will see Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and more reprising their key roles alongside new castings such as Lupita Nyong’o and Andy Serkis – is scheduled for release this winter. A collection of limited-edition CoverGirl Star Wars make-up products is due to launch in September, inspired by the film’s famous characters, and nobody is happier about the pairing than the beauty brand’s global creative design director Pat McGrath.
“I watched my first [Star Wars] film as a young girl and, like the rest of the world, was completely blown away. I immediately fell in love with the storyline, the never-before-seen special effects, and the amazing hair, make-up, and wardrobe of Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Hans Solo, Darth Vader, and all of the other characters. I’ve watched all of the films and I’ve been waiting for years for The Force Awakens,” said McGrath, who has created two looks to celebrate the partnership and to preview some of the make-up from the upcoming collection. Droid and Stormtrooper, two of six total looks created by McGrath as part of the partnership, are a tribute to the film’s “light versus dark” conceit.
“Droid was inspired by C-3PO and I wanted her to look beautiful, with strong gold eyes and gold lips. Stormtrooper is a soldier, so this make-up look is intercut with a graphic eye. The look is structured with a very dark berry lip,” explained McGrath. “Metallics are popular again this season and fit perfectly with the film. Take some risks and have fun with a gold or silver lip look!”
