Changi Airport Group has launched the 2016 edition of its ‘Be a Changi Millionaire’ retail promotion.

The S$1 million (US$738,400) grand prize is the largest cash sum offered in a retail draw in Singapore to date, according to the company.

Four event sites have been set up across Changi Airport’s terminals to mark the launch of the promotion. Giant-sized installations of popular food and shopping items, such as a burger, a bowl of prawn noodles and a handbag, offer photo opportunities for travellers.

To participate in the draw, airport visitors and passengers must spend a minimum of S$50 (US$37), with increased chances of winning as more is spent. Entries can then be submitted at the event sites up to 31 October or, for the first time, online.

One finalist will be picked each month from May to October to be entered into the Grand Draw, which takes place in early 2017. In addition to the introduction of a seventh finalist picked from iShopChangi shoppers in 2015, an eighth finalist will be picked from Changi Rewards Platinum card participants this year.

“We are excited to bring back ‘Be a Changi Millionaire’ for the seventh run as it has been a huge success in driving retail growth from travellers and visitors alike,” commented Changi Airport Group Executive Vice President, Commercial Lim Peck Hoon.

“This year, we have made it even more convenient for shoppers to participate in the draw through an online registration feature, which allows them to lock in their chances anytime and wherever they are. We remain focused on innovating our airport retail offers, leveraging on our non-aeronautical revenues to keep our airport charges competitive, and strengthening Changi Airport’s status as a leading air hub.”

The 2015 promotion attracted close to two million entries from 229 nationalities, more than double the number of entries recorded in the inaugural 2010 edition.
