Phase one will include retail, dining and entertainment facilities, as well as a hotel with 450 to 750 rooms. They are expected to be completed by 2021.<\/p>\n<p>But there is not yet a timetable for the following phases, the authority said. It added it will take into consideration the progress of phase one on the decision.<\/p>\n<p>Officials said Skycity will be very different from traditional malls, and their target is not just visitors but also young locals who can &#8220;spend the whole day there having fun.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>They also said there is an urgent need for another hotel. &#8220;The airport currently has only two hotels and they are always full. We hope the new hotel can ease the situation,&#8221; said chief executive Fred Lam Tin-fuk. &#8220;The completion of the shopping mall in 2021 can also benefit from the airport&#8217;s third runway due to start operation by 2024.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>They also believe the mall is in a strategic location for tourists as Disneyland and AsiaWorld-Expo are nearby.<\/p>\n<p>Authority chairman Jack So Chak- kwong told a conference that once the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao bridge and Tuen Mun to airport tunnel are completed, the complex would attract almost 100 million people from the Pearl River Delta by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>The authority said it is &#8220;difficult&#8221; to estimate costs at this stage.
