Milliner to the stars, royalty and the fashion set Philip Treacy is collaborating with MAC Cosmetics on a 12-piece collection for\u00a0launch in April 2015.<\/p>\n
\u2018My currency is beauty and elegance; you can attach that to anything. All I had to go on was my point of view, which is what design is about,\u2019 Treacy said of creating for MAC. \u2018It\u2019s what Phillip Treacy make-up could look like – it\u2019s about colour, exuberance and beauty.\u2019<\/p>\n
The starting point for the collaboration was, of course, his designs. \u2018We went to our archives with the MAC team and I selected pieces that did something for me.\u2019<\/p>\n
The collection is broken into three themes: \u2018A kind of futuristic Hollywood, one is all about colour and the other is a kind of Gothic, modern future\u2019.<\/p>\n
While Treacy doesn\u2019t have a favourite theme, he is enamored with old-school Hollywood. \u2018It\u2019s a time that invented contemporary glamour, completely. For designers, early Hollywood is a field day of inspiration.\u2019\u00a0The designer took ideas from the era, but counters, \u2018I like originality; we didn\u2019t want to do something that has been seen before.\u00a0\u2018What is interesting about make-up today is that it doesn\u2019t look old \u2013 it looks new.\u2019<\/p>\n
MAC\u00a0was an obvious partner. \u2018I worked with Mac for about 20 years and they\u2019ve always sponsored my catwalk shows. Then they asked me if I\u2019d be interested in this project and I was; I am.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u2018[The process] is different [to millinery]. It\u2019s about colour, but it\u2019s also about finding that perfect aspect to it, because colour reacts differently on different skin.\u00a0You can transform yourself with beautiful make-up. It is an enhancer; people buy a lipstick to cheer themselves up. It\u2019s about having fun with what you\u2019ve got\u2019.<\/p>\n
