Distinguished designer and founder of Architecture at Large, Rafael de C\u00e1rdenas has made his mark in the design world for his bold and geometric creations, and now he\u2019s partnered with Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster to launch a new line of sunglasses called Vision Quest.<\/p>\n

Birthed from a culmination of three cinematic muses, C\u00e1rdenas pulled inspiration from Madonna\u2019s 1985 film debut Vision Quest, followed by Luc Besson\u2019s 1994 classic Leon: The Professional, while sprinkling in doses of Tony Scott\u2019s erotic vampire drama The Hunger.<\/p>\n

The eyewear features mirrored lenses that are suspended in front of the frame on a series of arched supports, which gives an added allure to the optical-illusion design. The Vision Quest logo is emblazoned on the upper corner of the left lens, while the Gentle Monster and Rafael de C\u00e1rdenas collaboration logo is laser-etched onto the frame. There are two offerings in the collection: a matte-black frame with blue mirror lenses and a brushed-silver frame with gold mirror lenses.<\/p>\n

De C\u00e1rdenas also designed the Gentle Monster flagship store in New York City\u2019s SoHo district. He incorporated metal, wood, and maze-like mirror placements to express the brand\u2019s perspective, while the window displays and in-store art gallery express the brand\u2019s philosophy.<\/p>\n

Gentle Monster eyewear is available in selected travel retail and duty-free stores across Asia and online.<\/p>\n
