Launching this month\u00a0MAC Shadescents: six superb scents inspired by the personalities of six of the brand’s cult-favourite lipsticks.<\/p>\n

Inspired by the brand’s six bestselling lip colours \u2013 Ruby Woo, Lady Danger, Heroine, Velvet Teddy, Creme d’Nude, and Candy Yum-Yum – Shadescents are designed to capture the personality of your favourite MAC lipsticks.<\/p>\n

“We have a fan base attached to certain lipstick shades,” explains MAC’s senior vice president and group creative director James Gager, an understatement for the brand that sells four Ruby Woo lipsticks per minute. When Gager set out to build the new fragrance collection, he thought, “maybe there is another way that we can approach this that isn’t a ‘me too’ situation.” Rather than align with a celebrity face, Gager and Jennifer Balbier, senior vice president, global product development, decided to try something new. “It was a very different exercise in the way a fragrance is developed.”<\/p>\n

Unlike most perfumes that adhere to the complicated base, middle, and top note construct, each Shadescent fragrance features one dominant aroma. Heroine, Rihanna’s go-to purple, translates to a rich woody leather that lingers long after you’ve left the room. Candy Yum-Yum, a Barbie pink, smells as sweet, fruity, and playful as the lipstick looks. Cr\u00e8me d’Nude, a pale toffee shade, gives the wearer a softer, less imposing veil of musky amber. Shadescents offer something for everyone.<\/p>\n
