Venezuelan rum brand Diplom\u00e1tico has launched two new expressions called Mantuano and Planas, aged for up to eight years and up to six years respectively.<\/p>\n


\nBoth rums join Diplom\u00e1tico\u2019s new Tradition Range, which also includes the brand\u2019s flagship Reserva Exclusiva bottling \u2013 a sipping rum aged in small oak casks for up to 12 years.<\/p>\n

Planas, bottled at 47% abv, is a blended white rum distilled in pot stills with an \u201cintense sipping profile\u201d. It is named after the Planas Valley, where the Diplom\u00e1tico distillery is located.<\/p>\n

Mantuana, bottled at 40% abv, translates as \u2018local man\u2019 and is inspired by Don Juancho Nieto Mel\u00e9ndez, the 19th century character that inspired the creation of Diplom\u00e1tico.<\/p>\n

It is a blended rum aged in white oak casks that previously held Bourbon and malt whiskey. The expression combines column, batch kettle and pot still distillates created from sugar cane molasses and honey.<\/p>\n

Mantuano and Planas both have similar bottle designs to Reserva Exclusiva, featuring the image of Don Juancho Nieto Mel\u00e9ndez on their labels.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are very excited to release the new Diploma\u0301tico Tradition Range, which reflects the brand\u2019s premium positioning and incomparable taste profile,\u201d said Jose\u0301 Rafael Ballesteros Mele\u0301ndez, CEO Diploma\u0301tico Rum. \u201cIt is very important for us to continue to innovate and to contribute to the premiumisation of the rum category.\u201d<\/p>\n

The new Tradition Range will be available \u201cin key cities\u201d from February 2017. Reserva Exclusiva carries an RRP of US$40.00, Planas is priced US$29.00, and Mantuano will be available for US$24.00.<\/p>\n

Last year, Diplom\u00e1tico embarked on a significant push in duty-free, launching Reserva Exclusiva into six major airports across the US and Europe\u00a0(see story<\/a>).<\/strong><\/p>\n
