The German luxury brand has dipped its toes into the ever-expanding world of Android Wear \u2013 revealing its debut smartwatch, the Montblanc Summit.<\/p>\n

Starting with the physical and there are four different styles for the case to choose from – black PVD coated stainless steel, bi-colour stainless steel case with a black PVD coated stainless steel bezel, stainless steel case with satinated finish and a grade 5 titanium case with a satinated finish. There are also eight different straps – rubber in black, blue, green or red; black calfskin leather; brown or navy blue Sfumato calfskin leather.<\/p>\n

Montblanc is putting a big emphasis on the array of digital displays it will be pre-loading onto the Summit too \u2013 and the company is saying that these virtual faces, along with the physical elements mentioned above, means more than 300 different looks can be achieved.<\/p>\n

The original 1858 collection is the main inspiration for the 46mm watch case design, as well as for the classic watch faces, which are digital representations of the famous collection.<\/p>\n

One of the big selling points for the Summit is the fact that it\u2019s the first smartwatch to come with a curved sapphire glass watch face, covering a 400 x 400, 1.39-inch, AMOLED display.<\/p>\n

Unlike the Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45 (seen 3 days ago on Duty Free Hunter<\/a>), there\u2019s no mechanical switch-out option whereby you can pop out the smartwatch module and pop in a regular timepiece, but that doesn\u2019t mean Montblanc hasn\u2019t got plenty of customisation options up its sleeve.<\/p>\n

On the hardware front, there\u2019s a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor powering the proceedings, backed up with the usual 512MB of RAM and 4GB of RAM. The battery is on the small size \u2013 300mAh \u2013 but, as Montblanc has decided against putting GPS or NFC into its Wear watch it should last a full day. The former means no accurate run tracking without being paired to a smartphone though, and the latter means no Android Pay, which is a shame.<\/p>\n

The Montblanc Summit will come with a wide-range of curated apps including Uber, Worldtimer, Runtastic and Foursquare but, this being Android Wear, you\u2019re not limited to just these \u2013 remember that standalone apps were introduced with the recent Android 2.0 smartwatch update.<\/p>\n

The Montblanc Summit will cost from $890 or \u20ac890 when it goes on sale in May.<\/strong><\/p>\n
