S\u00e3o Paulo\/Guarulhos\u2013Governador Andr\u00e9 Franco Montoro International Airport<\/b> (IATA<\/a>: GRU<\/b>,\u00a0ICAO<\/a>: SBGR<\/b>), popularly known locally as Cumbica Airport<\/b> after the district where it is located and the\u00a0Brazilian Air Force<\/a> base that still exists at the airport complex, is the main international airport<\/a> serving S\u00e3o Paulo<\/a>, Brazil<\/a>. It is located in the municipality of Guarulhos<\/a> in Greater S\u00e3o Paulo<\/a>. Since November 28, 2001 the airport has been named after Andr\u00e9 Franco Montoro<\/a> (1916\u20131999), former Governor of S\u00e3o Paulo<\/a> state<\/a>.\u00a0The airport was rebranded as GRU Airport<\/b> in 2012.<\/p>\n

In Brazil the airport was ranked first in terms of transported passengers, aircraft operations, and cargo handled in 2012, placing it as the busiest airport<\/a> in Latin America by passenger traffic (39,573,000 in 2014).\u00a0Guarulhos has slot<\/a> restrictions, operating with a maximum of 45 operations\/hour\u00a0and being one of the five airports with such restrictions in Brazil (the others are S\u00e3o Paulo-Congonhas<\/a>,Bras\u00edlia<\/a>, Belo Horizonte-Pampulha<\/a> and Rio de Janeiro-Santos Dumont<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Since 2012, the airport has been operated by a consortium<\/a> composed of Invepar S\/A<\/a>, Airports Company South Africa<\/a>, and Infraero<\/a>.\u00a0Some of its facilities are shared with the S\u00e3o Paulo Air Force Base<\/a>\u00a0of the Brazilian Air Force<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Tropic of Capricorn<\/a> goes directly through the southern tip of the airport.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
