Honolulu International Airport<\/b> (IATA<\/a>: HNL<\/b>,\u00a0ICAO<\/a>: PHNL<\/b>,\u00a0FAA<\/a> LID<\/a>: HNL<\/b>) is the principal aviation gateway of the City & County of Honolulu<\/a> and the State of Hawaii<\/a> and is identified as one of the busiest airports in the United States, with traffic now exceeding 21 million passengers a year and rising.<\/p>\n

It is located in the Honolulu<\/a> census-designated place<\/a> three miles (5\u00a0km) northwest of Oahu<\/a>‘s central business district.\u00a0Main roads leading to the airport are Nimitz Highway<\/a> and the Queen Liliuokalani Freeway<\/a> of Interstate H-1<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Honolulu International Airport serves as the principal hub of Hawaiian Airlines<\/a>, the largest Hawaii-based airline. Hawaiian offers flights between the various airports of the Hawaiian Islands<\/a> and also serves the continental United States<\/a>, Australia<\/a>, New Zealand<\/a>, American Samoa<\/a>, Tahiti<\/a>, Japan<\/a>, and South Korea<\/a>. It is host to major United States and international airlines, with direct flights to American<\/a>,Asian<\/a>, and Pacific Rim<\/a> destinations. In addition to services to most major western cities and many smaller gateways, especially in California, the airport has succeeded in attracting long-haul services to the East Coast including the recently added destinations of Toronto<\/a> and Washington-Dulles<\/a>, which have joined established services to Atlanta<\/a>, New York-JFK<\/a> and Newark<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In 2012, the airport handled 19,291,412 passengers, 278,145 aircraft movements and processed 412,270 metric tonnes of cargo.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
