Scottish Highland distillery Glenmorangie has extended its Legends Collection of travel retail exclusives with a wine cask-finished single malt inspired by a 16th century drinking vessel.<\/p>\n

Glenmorangie Cadboll is a no-age-statement single malt whisky aged in ex-Bourbon casks and finished in barriques which previously held Muscat and S\u00e9millon wines.\u00a0The expression is bottled at 43% abv and priced at \u00a375<\/p>\n

Described as \u2018a slightly denser, more viscous expression\u2019, Cadboll is the brainchild of Dr Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie\u2019s director of distilling, whisky creation and whisky stocks.<\/p>\n

Cadboll is named after the Cadboll cup, a precious 16th century silver wine cup owned by the MacLeods of Cadboll, who created Glenmorangie House. The finishing barriques were chosen to echo the wines the Cadboll cup may once have held.<\/p>\n

\u2018[Cadboll\u2019s] aromas of baked bread and toasted brioche remind me of France,\u2019 Lumsden said. \u2018It is delightfully smooth and sweet on the palate, with tastes of mint humbugs, milky toffee and a long finish, full of old-fashioned confectionery.\u2019<\/p>\n

This bottling is the third permanent expression in the Legends Collection, following Glenmorangie Duthac and Tayne. The distillery also released Tarlogan<\/a>, a limited expression, into travel retail in 2016.<\/p>\n

\nGlenmorangie Cadboll is chill-filtered and bottled at 43% ABV<\/p>\n

Colour: Harvested barley<\/p>\n

Nose: The first impression is of baked bread or freshly toasted brioche, dry and sweet at the
\nsame time. As the nose develops, light, sweet and lemony notes appear. There are more dry
\nnotes with a flinty and fresh aroma. There is even a discreet savoury note towards the end,
\nlike roasted sage. Some water opens up the sweet notes further, with vanilla pods, and a
\ndeeper citrus note of lemon posset or orange cream.<\/p>\n

Taste: A smooth and full mouthfeel, this is a slightly denser, more viscous expression of
\nGlenmorangie. The flavour of freshly baked biscuits still warm from the oven. Then more
\nsweet flavours of candy sweets and icing sugar on the palate, which are balanced with a dry,
\ncrisp minerality and some of Glenmorangie\u2019s signature floral aromas. With water, some mint
\nhumbugs and lots of milky, soft toffee fill the palate, then melting vanilla ice-cream.<\/p>\n

Finish: Long and complex, with a final suggestion of old-fashioned candy, especially
\nstrawberry- and lemon-flavoured boiled sweets.<\/p>\n
