George Clooney’s Casamigos Tequila brand is expanding with the launch of a mezcal.<\/p>\n


\nCasamigos Mezcal is the first permanent line extension from the Casamigos Tequila brand<\/strong><\/p>\n

Made in Santiago Matatl\u00e1n, Casamigos Mezcal is crafted from 100% espadin agaves and bottled at 40% abv.<\/p>\n

The un-aged mezcal is made in small palenques (or meeting places), where pi\u00f1as are split and laid to cook for four to six days in six-tonne earthen pits lined with volcanic rocks heated by an oak wood fire.<\/p>\n

Once cooked, the pi\u00f1as are cooled for 24 hours before the crushing process begins. Depending on the season, the mezcal ferments for two to eight days before being distilled twice in copper pot stills. It is then allowed to stabilise for 30 days before mountain spring water is added.<\/p>\n

Casamigos Mezcal is described as \u201cbalanced and elegant\u201d, offering notes of tamarind, pomegranate, banana and mango.<\/p>\n

Casamigos Tequila, which was founded by George Clooney, Rande Gerber and Mike Meldman in 2013, was sold to Diageo last year in a deal worth up to US$1 billion.<\/p>\n

Following the deal, Diageo confirmed that the founders of Casamigos will have \u201ccontinued involvement and active participation\u201d in the future of the brand.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s nothing like it on the market,\u201d said Clooney and Gerber in a statement. \u201cWe\u2019ve created a mezcal that is as good as our Tequila. Casamigos Mezcal is uniquely smooth, easy to drink and smoked to perfection.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gerber added: \u201cI think people will love our mezcal as much as we do. We have proven to never settle for anything but the best and are extremely proud of what our family in Oaxaca have created. The fact that their tradition has continued over four generations, shows their dedication to perfection and we are extremely proud to add this to our Casamigos family.\u201d<\/p>\n

It is recommended sipped at room temperature from clay shot bowls called copitas.<\/p>\n

Casamigos Mezcal is available at an RRP of US$59.99 for 750ml and will also be available in one-litre format across the US, Canada, UK, Australia.<\/p>\n
