A mysterious \u2018Mademoiselle D\u2019 has inspired the latest line of Herm\u00e8s\u2019 classic luxury bags with the geometric, art deco design of Plume 28 and Kelly Retourn\u00e9 28 bags based on sketches of enigmatic draughtswoman employed by fashion brand in 1930.<\/p>\n

We love a good mystery, and it appears we\u2019ve stumbled across a good one when looking into the inspiration behind the latest Herm\u00e8s leather launches.<\/p>\n

The Herm\u00e8s Plume 28 and Kelly Retourn\u00e9 28 bags (below) \u2013 both in Lettres au carr\u00e9 print on toile de camp and Swift calfskin \u2013 showcase a geometric print that\u2019s distinctly art deco-esque, and that\u2019s no surprise given that the inspiration behind the design came from archive works that date back to 1930, created by an enigmatic draughtswoman in the maison\u2019s employ.<\/p>\n

The mysterious and prolific \u201cMademoiselle D\u201d \u2013 the name she signed on the back of her drawings \u2013 spent little more than a year with Herm\u00e8s, but the brand has more than 60 of her sketches in its archives.<\/p>\n

Some people have hazarded a guess that Mademoiselle D\u2019s first name could have started with a \u201cd\u201d as well, given that her signature resembles a double-D figure, but this is pure conjecture, and little is actually known about this enigmatic draughtswoman whose work inspired the brand\u2019s latest collection.<\/p>\n

If the Plume 28 and Kelly Retourn\u00e9 28 are a bit on the sporty side for you, the new special edition Kelly bags (below) are more in line with classic Herm\u00e8s offerings \u2013 vibrant and on the right side of fun-loving irreverence.<\/p>\n

The graphic Mademoiselle D-inspired letter designs were also used for Lettres au carr\u00e9 bag charms, which come in Epsom and Sombrero calfskin and Mysore goatskin.<\/p>\n

The quirky, colourful charms are made using leather inlay techniques, and you can personalise your bag with your own meaningful selection of letters, or you could always collect all 26.<\/p>\n

Mademoiselle D would probably have been proud of how her 1930 designs have been used today.<\/p>\n
