Imbued with a laidback and summery allure, this version of the Dior Book Tote bag was debuted by one of the models walking in the spring-summer 2018 ready-to-wear show.<\/p>\n

Discovering the secrets behind the making of the\u00a0Dior Book Tote,<\/em>\u00a0developed in a multicolored canvas for summer, means starting in the House\u2019s design studio in Paris. It\u2019s here that its graphic motif, inspired by Mexican crafts, was worked out \u2013 a design combining over fifteen shades of green, orange, red, fuchsia, violet and blue.<\/p>\n

The next step takes places in Italy, in a family-owned atelier located in the region of Umbria, also known as \u201cItaly\u2019s green heart\u201d, where it is fully embroidered. Each bag requires more than thirty-two hours of work and over one million two hundred thousand stitches. In addition, this bag necessitated three different kinds of embroidery stitch. For example, on the front of the bag, the \u201cChristian Dior Paris\u201d signature in black was realized using a top-stitching technique that creates a relief effect.<\/p>\n

Once they have been made, the five pieces of the\u00a0Dior Book Tote<\/em>\u00a0are then inspected and quality-controlled before being sent to the House\u2019s leather ateliers located in the Florentine hinterland. The artisan begins by mounting the two handles sewn with reinforcements on the front and back panels of the bag. Their length allows for hand or shoulder wear, and their round shape guarantees total comfort. A discreet signature, the legend “Christian Dior Paris, Made in Italy”, embossed with gold ribbon on leather, is placed inside. Then, using a sewing machine, the artisan can assemble the tote\u2019s lateral and central parts. Following a final quality control, the bag is ready to be worn and to reveal its interplay of subtle shades.<\/p>\n
