The Macallan has unveiled Concept No. 1 – the first release in a new, highly collectable, limited edition series which celebrates the world’s visionaries by daring to disrupt the whisky making process.

Exclusive to duty-free, The Macallan Concept No. 1 is inspired by surreal art and incorporates innovative production techniques to create an exciting new single malt.

Created from whiskies matured first in sherry-seasoned oak casks and then for an equal time in ex-bourbon casks, The Macallan Concept No. 1 is crafted to explore maturation more imaginatively.

The knowledge and skills involved in creating this bold and exceptional single malt demonstrates The Macallan’s dedication to pursuing excellence and offering new experiences. It also reflects the unrivalled commitment to the mastery of wood and spirit for which The Macallan has been known since it was established in 1824.

Displaying a warm golden amber hue, The Macallan Concept No. 1 delivers sweet butterscotch tinged with almond and warming spices on the nose. Hints of dried fruit and citrus notes are also present. On tasting, the citrus flavours become more intense, with sweet orange and lemon bursting through, punctuated by ginger. The soft sweetness gives way to a dry oak finish.

Nick Savage, The Macallan Master Distiller, said: “The Macallan Concept No. 1 is whisky re-imagined and offers a compelling new sensory experience that rewards with every sip. The innovative process developed to produce this remarkable single malt pays tribute to the visionaries of the surreal art world and reflects our continuous search for excellence.

“Characterised by notes of citrus fruits and ginger, with a hint of dried fruit The Macallan Concept No. 1 creates a soft and subtle sweetness before a dry and lingering oak finish.”

Igor Boyadjian, Edrington Global Travel Retail Director, commented: “We’re proud to unveil the first release in The Macallan’s latest innovative travel retail-exclusive product range. By “breaking the norm”, Concept No.1 reinforces our commitment to offering exciting products to travellers and we’re confident this fresh innovation will prove attractive to travellers and collectors alike.”

Bottled at an ABV of 40% Macallan Concept No. 1 is presented in exclusive packaging featuring a surrealist design of The Macallan Six Pillars. It will be available exclusively in Dubai Duty Free from 1st December and selected GTR outlets throughout Asia, Australia, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas from January 2019. Its recommend selling price is US$125.
