Watchmakers OMEGA are celebrating the 125th Anniversary of the brand’s famous name – and have launched two new creations to mark the occasion.<\/p>\n

OMEGA have given the first glimpse of two new watchmaking creations to celebrate the 125th birthday of it famous name, including the De Ville Tr\u00e9sor 125th Anniversary Edition, pictured above and below – crafted from 18K yellow gold with a burgundy leather strap and a red enamel dial to match OMEGA\u2019s iconic brand colour.<\/p>\n

An updated version of the famous 19-ligne Calibre was also unveiled \u2013 which is being given a new lease of life for the 21st century. The brand has retrieved a number of original movement components from its vaults, including bridges, mainplates, escapements and bimetallic balance spring. These will now be used by the watchmakers in OMEGA\u2019s Atelier Tourbillon to recreate 19 movements for a new half hunter pocket watch.<\/p>\n

Before it was called OMEGA, the company\u2019s first workshop was opened in 1848 by the young watchmaker Louis Brandt. Almost 50 years later, in 1894, his two sons, Louis-Paul and C\u00e9sar, invented a new movement that would change the industry forever. Their innovative 19-ligne calibre introduced pioneering mechanisms as well as industrial-scale production lines. It was so advanced that the brothers named the movement \u201cOmega\u201d – symbolising ultimate accomplishment. Following that achievement, the entire company was renamed \u201cOMEGA\u201d in 1903.<\/p>\n

More than a century of watchmaking history has been celebrated in style at the OMEGA Museum in Bienne, Switzerland. Marking the 125th anniversary of the OMEGA name, guests came from around the world to relive the brand\u2019s key moments, including the story of how the brand got its name!<\/p>\n

At the intimate celebration in Bienne, Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of OMEGA said, \u201cToday, we are truly proud to represent such an iconic name. OMEGA is the only watchmaker to be named after a movement, which proves our commitment to the art of precision. It is also a name renowned in so many areas \u2013 from moon landings and the Olympic Games to James Bond films and ocean exploration.
