Benefit has reimagined one of its most iconic products as a loose, flashback-free setting powder.<\/p>\n

As with any beauty brand, products have come and go from the Benefit Cosmetics family of makeup and skin care. Some, however, have stuck around an impressively long time, like Benetint, the brand’s very first product in 1976, and Dr. Feelgood Mattifying Balm, which has spent the entire 21st century dutifully de-shining countless faces. And now, all these years after the beloved multitasking salve first debuted, Benefit is finally launching a spinoff: Dr. Feelgood Silky Mattifying Powder.<\/strong><\/p>\n

At first glance, it looks like almost the exact same product. The round tin features a sepia photo of an affectionate 1920s couple in front of green and gold, wallpaper-like pattern, accompanied by the instantly recognizable, pink Dr. Feelgood font. There’s even an applicator much like that of the balm. But while both products promise to mattify, they go about it quite differently.<\/p>\n

Dr. Feelgood Mattifying Balm is known for its apply-anytime versatility: You can wear it alone, under makeup like a primer, or on top of makeup as a way to blot away midday shine. Dr. Feelgood Silky Mattifying Powder, however, doesn’t really work as a primer; and while it can definitely work on bare skin, it serves its highest purpose as a way to set makeup. “This translucent powder instantly minimizes shine, sets makeup, and controls excess surface oil for 12 hours,” Benefit boasts. “The silky, loose setting powder feels weightless and has an invisible finish, leaving nothing behind but natural-looking matte skin.” It even promises to eliminate the dreaded flashback effect that makes so many other setting powders embarrassingly apparent in photos.<\/p>\n

So now that Dr. Feelgood Silky Mattifying Powder has arrived, does it mean that Dr. Feelgood Mattifying Balm is being discontinued? Although there’s definitely enough room in our makeup bags for both, a couple hints suggest it might be on its way out. While it\u2019s in stock at the Saks, Nordstrom, and Macy\u2019s websites, it\u2019s out of stock on Benefit\u2019s own site and has completely dropped off the face of Sephora’s.<\/p>\n

Either way, Dr. Feelgood Silky Mattifying Powder is a welcome addition to Benefit’s offerings, and it’s now available on benefitcosmetics.com<\/a> – and on counter in selected duty-free stores around the world.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
