British Airways and Scottish craft brewery, BrewDog, have teamed up to create a transatlantic IPA to celebrate the airline\u2019s\u00a0centenary<\/a>, and in a world first brewed beer at 40,000ft.
\nWith the help of British Airways cabin crew, BrewDog founders Martin Dickie and James Watt, started the brewing process on board one of the airline\u2019s Boeing 787 Dreamliners, while cruising 500mph over the north of Scotland.<\/p>\n

The expert brewers mixed water, hops and barley in the onboard beverage makers to start the mashing part of the brewing process. Watch how they did it\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Cans of the bespoke IPA, named Speedbird 100 after the airline\u2019s call sign, will be exclusively available to British Airways customers on board all long-haul and short-haul flights and in selected lounges from May 1.<\/p>\n

The recipe has been specifically brewed to work perfectly in the air and adapt to the reduction in taste and smell sensitivity at high altitudes.<\/p>\n

In another first, BrewDog, will open their first bar in New York in British Airways\u2019 Club lounge at JFK\u2019s Terminal 7. Customers will be able to enjoy BrewDog\u2019s headline craft beers, along with Speedbird 100. British Airways\u2019 new Club lounge at JFK opens this Spring, completing the airline\u2019s investment in Terminal 7.<\/p>\n

James Watt MBE, BrewDog\u2019s co-founder, said: \u201cIt\u2019s been incredible to be able to partner with British Airways in their centenary year and create a completely new beer for their customers. \u201d<\/p>\n

Martin Dickie MBE, BrewDog\u2019s co-founder, added: \u201cThe key thing is that the bitterness and fruit flavours aren\u2019t really affected by the altitude, so we wanted to play on those two things and ramp up the sweetness. We really hope British Airways customers love Speedbird 100 as much as we do.\u201d<\/p>\n

From May 1 Executive Club members can also enjoy a 10 per cent discount on all food and drink in BrewDog bars across the UK when they show their Executive Club card and a 10 per cent discount on merchandise on\u00a0brewdog.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Flyers will be able to watch the \u2018making of Speedbird 100\u2019 on the airline\u2019s inflight entertainment system from July.<\/p>\n
