Johnnie Walker owner Diageo has developed a \u201cnew-to-world whisky\u201d as part of a new joint venture with Chinese baijiu producer Jiangsu Yanghe Distillery.<\/p>\n

Described as a \u201cpremium taste of east and west\u201d, Zhong Shi Ji whisky has been created by Diageo\u2019s Scotch whisky master blender Craig Wallace and China Alcoholic Drinks Association\u2019s Chinese baijiu master Zhou Xinhu.<\/p>\n

The product has been launched under the Jiangsu Yanghe Diageo Spirit Company, a new joint venture formed between the UK drinks giant and Yanghe, China\u2019s third largest baijiu distiller.<\/p>\n

Zhong Shi Ji<\/strong> is made through a \u201cunique\u201d production method, which includes \u201csoftening\u201d whisky through Chinese ceramic pot maturation. The new whisky taps into the meal occasion in China, with 80% of alcohol consumption taking place during meals.<\/p>\n

C.H. Chu, managing director of Diageo Greater China, said: \u201cDiageo has long regarded China as one of the world\u2019s most important emerging markets for whisky. With accelerated urbanisation and a fast-growing middle class, Chinese consumers are demanding both choice and quality.
