The birthplace of G&T finally stakes claim to the first Craft Gin made from 100% Indian botanicals.<\/p>\n

The origin of Gin & Tonic takes us back to the times of the British East India Company in colonial India. At the time, malaria was a recurrent problem. In the 1700s, Scottish doctor George Cleghorn studied how quinine, a traditional treatment for malaria, could be used to prevent the disease.<\/p>\n

The quinine was drunk in tonic water. However, the bitter taste was unpleasant. British service members in India in the early 19th century who were served a gin ration began to add a mixture of water, sugar, lime and gin to the quinine to make the drink more palatable. Thus the iconic Gin and Tonic cocktail were born. The sweet concoction grew on them, and as they say \u201cthe rest is history\u201d. It explains why even today, the labels of your favourite Tonic waters read as \u2018Indian Tonic Water\u2019.<\/p>\n

Now back to the present \u2013 \u2018Gindia Original Craft Gin\u2019 is the proud produce of Kerala, India. It is distilled from grain and billed as an \u201cIndian Style Gin\u201d. It\u2019s an amalgam of both: classic gin botanicals and hand-picked Indian botanicals including Himalayan Juniper, Assam Tea, Green Cardamom, Black Pepper, Clove, Sweet Orange peel to name a few of the 23 botanicals that go into its production. These are just some of the botanicals which Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama came in quest of when he sailed to the Malabar coast of Kerala, India in 1498.<\/p>\n

Founder of Wild Tiger Beverages, Gautom Menon says \u201cWe have been working on this for nearly two years with a scientific approach, and finally we go into full production in the New Year. We have been showcasing it to buyers in the duty-free industry, importers and distributors for a few months now, and the response has been encouraGINg. The stunning white bottle with a pearl look is made using recycled glass featuring a debossed outline in brushed metal. The patented bottle design depicts the key botanicals vibrantly, and all inks used are eco-friendly. It comes with a high-quality, embossed cork stopper.<\/p>\n
