Gouez added: \u201cThe wine is then topped out with 15% of the 2004 vintage aged in bottle on its lees. It doesn\u2019t have to be a seven-harvest blend, future versions might be six or eight.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n The wine, a 50\/50 Chardonnay Pinot blend, was not given any dosage at all and is thus the first Brut Nature champagne that Mo\u00ebt has released. Gouez explains that \u201cbefore I was convinced [such a wine] needed some dosage, essentially to assure its ageing potential. But I found that the no dosage versions [of this wine] to be the \u2018truest\u2019,\u201d though he qualified this by saying \u201cbut maybe some dosage would make it better still\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n Referring back to its predecessor MC111, the last blend of which was based on the very specific 2003 vintage, Gouez said: \u201cThe result was a little too heavy for the Mo\u00ebt style. Here we\u2019re looking more for freshness, fruitiness and lightness. The 2013 base is livelier and brings this lightness. The oak aged vintage wine elements are aged separately for about one year and then go back into stainless steel or concrete tanks [before blending].\u201d<\/p>\n For Gouez, this \u201coak-aged element is all about texture and patina, not to give any oaky flavours to the wine. The MC11 blend used younger oak, now these [foudres] are ten years older.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n For him, the 2004 element aged on its lees in bottles reveals different facets in the wine \u201ca dark reductive toastiness first and also a noticeable saline finish,\u201d<\/em> that he likes.<\/p>\n It\u2019s his version of \u2018minerality\u2019, a word he can\u2019t define, and it was only in the original cuv\u00e9e of MC1, which was launched back in April 2015, and where he first saw this element of salinity in a Mo\u00ebt wine.<\/p>\n Gouez reveals that there are follow up wines in the cellar based on a later unnamed vintage and he hopes the follow up wines will be Brut Nature too, noting as he has consistently in the past expressed a great reluctance to make any non-dos\u00e9e cuv\u00e9es, \u201cmaybe I\u2019m evolving too\u201d<\/em>, he said.<\/p>\n He noted that \u201cno-one, in any of our sneak previews has even noticed the lack of any dosage\u201d. But he doesn\u2019t rule out having a low dosage in future releases.<\/em><\/p>\n The new wine was disgorged in March 2022 and so when tasted back in June it has already had over one year of post-disgorgement ageing. Gouez is convinced with more time the wine is \u201cgoing to get better and better\u201d.<\/em> It has only been released it what Gouez calls \u201chalf-magnum\u201d \u2013 i.e. 75cl bottles.<\/p>\n He continued: \u201cWe did some magnums but lost them because of problems with the crown caps. They have released 75,000 bottles and the retail price is expected to be in the region of \u20ac200.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Launched partly to celebrate the 280th anniversary of the house, the idea is there will be a new release of this wine every two years up to the 300th anniversary, so it will, said Gouez, \u201cwork as a countdown to that celebration\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n It will be available in the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and Japan but not initially in the USA and retail for \u00a3206.<\/strong><\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/www.dutyfreehunter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/MOET.jpg\")
