\nThe Scotch whisky marks the third release in the brand\u2019s A Night on Earth Series, and rounds off a year of \u2018exceptional\u2019 200th anniversary celebrations, which has included activations, partnerships and special releases.<\/strong><\/p>\n
The new single malt is inspired by southern Spanish traditions which are said to \u2018encourage reflection of time passed and celebration of the future\u2019 as the year comes to a close.<\/p>\n
A Night on Earth in Jerez de la Frontera was matured in a combination of European and American Sherry-seasoned oak casks, produced to The Macallan\u2019s \u2018exacting\u2019 specifications.<\/p>\n
The combination delivers a richness and sweetness on the palate, with notes of pastry, grapes and anise. These flavours are said to have been inspired by the Spanish custom of eating 12 grapes before the start of the New Year, as well as the traditional Jerez pastry, pesti\u00f1os \u2013 a rich, fried dough with sugar and aniseed or honey.<\/p>\n
Steven Bremner, whisky maker, commented: \u201cJerez plays a crucial role in The Macallan\u2019s past, but also present and future. As a whisky maker, having been able to tell part of that story through a whisky has been wonderfully rewarding. A combination of European and American Sherry-seasoned casks has enabled us to capture the flavours, traditions and Mar\u00eda\u2019s memories of New Year in Jerez de la Frontera, the home of Sherry wine.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n The Macallan collaborated with artist Mar\u00eda Melero, a native of Jerez, to create the distinctive designs that adorn the release. Her artwork was chosen to \u2018enhance the unboxing experience\u2019, in a bid to make it \u2018as memorable as the whisky itself\u2019.<\/p>\n The outer design features a crimson sky and a vivid sunset with Sherry wine vineyards, as well as roses that grow in the vineyards and act as a natural warning system of potential threats to the soil or the vines.<\/p>\n Upon opening, consumers will find a display of \u2018azulejos\u2019 \u00ad\u2013 traditional Jerez wall tiles \u2013 all featuring icons representing celebrations and meaningful moments for The Macallan and Jerez, from casks and stills to oranges to vine leaves.<\/p>\n The inner packaging continues to tell this story, with grapes from the Jerez vineyards pictured throughout.<\/p>\n A Night on Earth in Jerez de la Frontera is bottled at 43% ABV and available to purchase now ( from 5 November) for an RRP of \u00a3110 (US$143).<\/strong><\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/www.dutyfreehunter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/MAC-2024-ANOEJerez-Static-LifeStylePhoto-UnBranded-16x9-RGB-150dpi-xl.jpg\")
