The proposition of an artistic collaboration around the R\u00e9my Martin XO decanter immediately struck a personal chord with Anish Kapoor. \u201cThere was a sense from the beginning of this project with R\u00e9my Martin that it refers to my history,\u201d<\/em> he explained. \u201cMy father used to drink it when I was a boy in India, and I carried that with me.\u201d<\/em> A legacy that echoes with the House of R\u00e9my Martin, born more than 300 years ago and whose savoir-faire and heritage has also been passed down from one generation to the next.<\/p>\n

The travel retail channel will provide an exciting showcase for the R\u00e9my Martin XO Anish Kapoor Limited Edition, which is being offered to selected retailer partners around the world, ensuring unparalleled visibility among discerning consumers \u2013 and further reinforcing the brand\u2019s luxury status on the global stage.<\/p>\n

The GTR roll-out is being supported by a series of high-profile, immersive activations that invite travellers to embark on a sensory journey into the universe of R\u00e9my Martin XO, reimagined though the creativity of one of the world\u2019s greatest living sculptors.<\/p>\n

The activations begin this month at the West Kowloon High Speed Rail Link station, in partnership with Avolta, and in Hong Kong International Airport, in collaboration with China Duty Free Group. Further HPP activations will follow later this summer, in London Heathrow, Zayed International, and Paris Charles de Gaulle, among other locations.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reflecting Kapoor\u2019s artwork \u2013 and the new decanter design \u2013 the HPP activations feature a \u201cMirror Infinite Possibilities\u201d theme, incorporating a three-step engagement concept conceived to immerse shoppers in Kapoor\u2019s design journey. Through digital gamification, the \u201cReflecting Memories\u201d activity invites shoppers to draw on memories associated with R\u00e9my Martin, resulting in a cocktail recipe that is tailored to their recollections. The \u201cInterlocking Lights and Colours\u201d glorifier encourages travellers to observe the different shades of R\u00e9my Martin XO eaux-de-vie as it interacts with light from different angles, radiating from the reimagined limited-edition decanter. The final step, \u201cMirroring Infinite Possibilities\u201d, provides consumers with a concave mirror experience inspired by Kapoor\u2019s iconic concave mirror installation. Kapoor has reimagined the iconic R\u00e9my Martin XO decanter as a minimalist curve with a concave centre in glowing amber tones. He revisited the original glass mold to form a smooth front surface that fuses with the classic scooped design on the back to amplify its luminous effect, enhance its solar shape and reflect infinite possibilities. He explained: \u201cI was working with the designers to make the decanter, relating to this liquid and how it functions, this liquid which I originally knew through my father and have picked up from my past over the years, so it\u2019s become present and real. I toyed with it and decided on a much simpler design\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n

AN EXCLUSIVE ARTPIECE INSPIRED BY ALL THE SHADES OF R\u00c9MY MARTIN XO<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kapoor has created an artwork for the House of R\u00e9my Martin that sits within his recent body of painted mirror works. The concave surface of the vast mirror immerses viewers in its dense yet ethereal tones inspired by all the shades of R\u00e9my Martin XO eaux-de-vie \u2013 hundreds of hues, ranging from pale gold to dark amber, carefully blended, then patiently aged in French oak casks, browned by time in the darkness of our cellars. Kapoor said: \u201cI began to think about a work that would sit alongside the R\u00e9my Martin bottle. It has this radiant presence, it shows through. The colour is the most direct way of getting into it. I wanted to translate these reflections.\u201d<\/p>\n

As you move around the work, the colours change, endless rays of reflections come to light: \u201cI had to search for this colour,\u201d<\/em> the artist explained, \u201cbecause it\u2019s a liquid and as the light changes, it changes \u2013 and the concave mirror captures its reflective qualities.\u201d<\/em> With this sculpture, Kapoor has created a physical presence to the opulence of R\u00e9my Martin XO, a celebration of its flamboyant aromas, a symbol of the solar radiance of the XO decanter and an invitation to contemplate different realities.<\/p>\n
