With the Formula 1 season coming to an end, the world\u2019s largest LEGO\u00ae store in an airport at Dubai International (DXB) is keeping the excitement alive this holiday season with the launch of an impressive new race car installation. The activation transforms a central pillar of the store into a dynamic racetrack, complete with a custom-built LEGO\u00ae race car and immersive, interactive features.<\/p>\n

The installation brings the high-speed world of racing directly into DXB. The pillar-turned-racetrack is illuminated and features interactive buttons that play racing sound bites giving customers the sensation of being right on the track.<\/p>\n

The custom-built LEGO\u00ae race car was inspired by the original LEGO\u00ae set 1631, released in 1990. The race car was constructed using 67,432 LEGO\u00ae bricks and took 372 hours to build. It weighs 78 kilograms and travelled 6,814 kilometres from Billund, Denmark to its new home at DXB.<\/p>\n

The store also features a behind-the-scenes video documenting the race car\u2019s journey from concept to completion, giving customers a rare look into the creative process behind large-scale LEGO\u00ae builds. In addition to offering an immersive racing experience, the installation also supports the popularity of the LEGO\u00ae Formula 1 product range, which has been one of the store\u2019s strongest-performing collections since launch. The introduction of the large scale LEGO\u00ae race car celebrates the success of these sets and provides an engaging focal point for fans, inspiring travellers to explore the wider assortment of Formula 1 themed LEGO\u00ae sets available in-store.<\/p>\n

The installation further enhances the store\u2019s already robust \u201cretailtainment\u201d concept and offers travellers a unique experience during the busy holiday travel period.<\/p>\n

Operated by Lagard\u00e8re Travel Retail, the store spans 190 square metres, and is designed to resemble giant LEGO\u00ae bricks. The space offers a series of interactive experiences including The Minifigure Scanner, which transforms a hand scan into a personalised LEGO\u00ae Minifigure, and The Digibox, an augmented reality screen that animates LEGO\u00ae sets to inspire creative building. The store also showcases large-scale LEGO\u00ae installations that have become popular photo backdrops, including a Dubai skyline mosaic (33,219 bricks; 134 hours; 62 kg), a 190cm tall LEGO\u00ae pilot (45,033 bricks; 180 hours; 134 kg), and an Formula 1 inspired LEGO\u00ae race car (33,219 bricks, 134 hours, 62kg) which travellers can sit for a photo moment.<\/p>\n
