Given travel-related accessories are a big part of the Smythson of Bond Street offer, its store reopening Wednesday (22 July) in Heathrow’s busy Terminal 5 marks an important statement in its anniversary year at the airport.

“As the UK’s busiest terminal, it is the perfect location to showcase Smythson’s latest collections to international travellers,” it said on the eve of the reopening.

Brand CEO Paolo Porta added: “As the gateway to and from London, Heathrow has long represented a key outpost for international travellers to discover our quintessentially British brand. Having first opened at Heathrow in 1996, the launch of our new Terminal 5 store is the perfect way to honour 30 years of this partnership.”

With it comes a complete redesign with Smythson partnering with interior design studio Four-by-Two “to bring our flagship experience to this airside location. The 74sq m space has been designed with the contemporary global traveller in mind.”

Drawing inspiration from the gilt-edged pages of its notebooks and diaries, the store introduces a “sculptural architecture with metallic accents that flow seamlessly through the shopfront and interior.”

It features the full Smythson range, including travel bags, homewares, games and leather accessories, as well as stationery, notebooks and diaries, with bestselling styles such as the Multi-Zip Case, Passport Cover and Luggage Tag, in colours “specially selected for Heathrow.”

The store will also feature dedicated gold-stamping of stationery, to personalise purchases with initials or a “playful” motif.

Alongside the signature range Smythson will introduce an exclusive collection of stamps created by its design team. Inspired by vintage passport stamps, these designs will only be available at Heathrow T5.
