“It’s a journey through the sky, to the heart of constellations”. Chanel’s Fall‑Winter 2017/18 collection took the fashion world on a journey through space. Designed by the stargazer of the fashion world, Karl Lagerfeld, the French luxury house’s latest collection was showcased at Paris Fashion Week.
Inspired by outer space, the Fall‑Winter 2017/18 collection featured iridescent dresses, silvery reflections and astronaut prints. The materials appeared to come from space with constellations of sparkles, planet motifs and metallic effects. The life-size Chanel rocket ship stationed at the centre of the runway, made a perfect backdrop to Karl Lagerfeld’s futuristic, galactic-inspired set.
WWD reports that fashion’s new “Rocket Man” let his fabrics do the soaring. With their richness and density, Chanel tweeds make the perfect material for otherworldly allusions like the night sky, surface of Mars, Milky Way!
Designed for the world of tomorrow, the line up also featured chic suits, cropped trousers, astronaut prints on airy dresses, sweaters, futuristic metallic boots, metallic padded space shawls, galactic prints, silver leather suits, tweed tunics and much more. Structural high neck round collar dresses and jackets were also inspired by space suits.
Reflecting celestial night stars, the collection emphasised on deep black, silver, grey, pure white with touch of electric red and purple .
Models sported wool headbands that imitated crowns embroidered with crystals and pearls. They sashayed around the space station in classic two-tone, low-heeled sparkly boots. Many bags including the big, side-pocketed carryalls were seen on the ramp, but the one that didn’t miss our eye is the quilted Chanel rocket ship bag.
Karl Lagerfeld took his final bow with Hudson Kroenig, who debuted the new Chanel bag, the Gabriella. The show ended when Chanel rocket blasted off as Elton John’s “Rocket Man” was played at the Launch Pad no.5 of the ‘Agence Spaciale Gabrielle Chanel’.
The front row sparkled with starry Chanel ambassadors like Pharrell Williams, Cara Delevingne, Lily-Rose Depp and the likes.
