The Memory of a Distant Place
Egypt: the birthplace of Chloé founder Gaby Aghion, a pioneer whose vision for Chloé redefined Paris fashion and empowered women. Egypt’s landscape, with its stretch of desert and lush valleys, remained etched in Gaby’s mind as a magical place bathed in warmth and wondrous light. Following Nuit d’Égypte and Lumière d’Égypte, is the third chapter of the Nomade line, Jardin d’Égypte.
A Symbol of Renewal
The new eau de parfum, Jardin d’Égypte, pays tribute to the emblematic papyrus, the native aquatic plant that flourishes abundantly in the fertile lands of the Nile Delta. Sacred to the ancient Egyptians, the papyrus represents eternal life and renewal. It is expressed through vibrant green notes that blend with the earthy, heady aromas of kyphi, a compound incense and the earliest known perfume to humankind. Ancient formulas for kyphi were discovered in the Temple of Horus in Edfu and the Temple of Hathor in Dendera; it was burned by priests of antiquity to honour the god Ra and was also used for medicinal purposes. The age-old alchemical art of kyphi has been reinterpreted by perfumers as the essential ingredient in the Egypt-inspired line, Nomade.
A Lush Oasis
For Jardin d’Égypte, an intense and vibrant green scent, perfumer Caroline Dumur drew inspiration from a verdant garden filled with fresh greenery, sweet flowers, and fruit-bearing trees.
The fragrance opens with the solar notes of the cassie flower. This sweetness delicately entwines with the vegetal freshness of papyrus, evoking a summer garden as the day begins. This luminous start is enriched by the honeyed accents of sun- dried dates and luscious fig accords — opulent accents that impart ripeness and warmth to the composition.
As the scent unfolds, the heart reveals the intoxicating depth of the Kyphi accord—the signature essence of the collection—an ancient, alchemical blend of essential oils that mingles spiced cinnamon bark with the creamy richness of sandalwood and resinous myrrh.
Finally, the fragrance deepens as the bespoke Solarwood accord blends with the velvety smoothness of sandalwood oil and musky ambrette absolute. The interplay of woody and resinous notes lingers with irresistible sensuality and depth.
Nomade Jardin d’Égypte is presented in the line’s iconic flacon, now adorned with a vibrant green ribbon. It echoes the greenery of the campaign imagery, which features the papyrus plant, with its stems and grass-like leaves stretching up towards a sun-lit sky, capturing a poetic moment in conversation with nature.
