Cointreau is set to unveil a special limited edition bottle of its famous liqueur – a sparkling gem-cut presentation…

Certain bottles are so iconic that they are inextricably bound to their names, having reinvented themselves over the years without losing their identity. Cointreau is a remarkable example of this, with a silhouette so embedded in our collective memory that we could sketch it with our eyes closed.

While the recipe has stayed the same, the Cointreau bottle has seen subtle changes that reflect the fashion of the day, yet has never lost its timeless character.

Cut like a diamond

Once again La Maison Cointreau dives headfirst into a creative journey centred on its iconic bottle.

In this endeavour, the house draws inspiration from the eloquent words of founder Édouard Cointreau about the liqueur he crafted after more than ten years of research: “I have searched passionately for the quintessential flavour of Cointreau. I wanted to combine the purity of crystal with the subtlety of tastes made from the perfect blend of sweet and bitter orange peels.”

This search for the “holy grail” – purity and subtlety of flavour – eventually blossomed into Cointreau’s most memorable hallmark. La Maison Cointreau chose a bottle design that would embody the crystalline transparency its founder had so tirelessly sought during the creation of the liqueur.

This is how the new version of the bottle was born: an incarnation shaped and cut in the same way that a fine jeweller would transform a rough diamond. The raised embossing that elegantly swathes the bottle helps to achieve a charmingly feminine textured effect.

The result is deliciously tactile. Running one’s fingers over the myriad of diamond-like facets reveals the painstaking craftsmanship in evidence on the glassware.

The design appears more subtly on the stopper, adorned with features to catch the eye and create an optical illusion. In truth, this bottle is neither entirely new nor utterly different. It merely represents a facet of the Cointreau character expressed in its purest and most radiant form.

Jewellery as tableware

This gem of a bottle will be the belle of the ball at many an end of year party around the world – an edition that inspires a taste for the ephemeral through inventive cocktails.

Cointreau liqueur is renowned for capturing the perfect balance between the sweetness and bitterness of oranges. These subtle flavours hint at a true strength of character and are best enjoyed “on the rocks”.

Thanks to its versatility, Cointreau has brought a number of essential cocktails to life, including the Margarita, Cosmopolitan, White Lady, Sidecar and the eponymous Cointreau Fizz, a fresh and sparkling cocktail of Cointreau, the juice of half a lime and sparkling water, adjusted to personal preference with the addition of fresh fruit and/or aromatic herbs.

The Cointreau Limited Edition.1 litre will appear in selected travel retail stores worldwide, priced at parity with Cointreau Original. A 70cl will be available in selected domestic markets.

Rémy Cointreau GTR will exhibit its portfolio of products at Marine Village Foyer 1A at TFWA World Exhibition from 3rd to 7th October 2016.
