This year, with a new face and formula, Givenchy’s L’Interdit makes a comeback, with a playful call to bend the rules.

Celebrity fragrances are nothing new but before there were brand ‘faces’ and beauty ambassadors, there was a friendship that has become the blueprint for all collaborations since – that of Hubert de Givenchy and Audrey Hepburn. And while we have often wished that we could bottle the Breakfast at Tiffany’s star’s elegance and sophistication, Givenchy did just that, creating L’Interdit (translated as ‘forbidden’ – Hepburn’s tongue-in-cheek response to Givenchy’s request to mass produce her fragrance), a much sought-after fragrance inspired by the iconic actress. A heady, floral fragrance, it features orange blossom, jasmine and tuberose, the scents he picked up on her freshly-spritzed scarf, carelessly left behind at his Parisian atelier one day in 1957.

Now, it has been reworked by Givenchy’s master perfumers, as the late designer’s last project before he passed away in March of this year. ‘Now is the perfect moment to pay tribute to the creator of a brand that loved beauty, and wanted to make our world a more beautiful place,’ says Eloy Martinez De La Pera Celada, a close friend of Hubert de Givenchy and expert of the brand. Rooney Mara, an Audrey look-a-like will star in the upcoming campaign, with the fragrance due to launch from late September.
