US duty-free operator International Shoppes has launched its new website www.ishoppes.com, which now allows travellers to start shopping before they travel with a full e-commerce and pre-order system.
International Shoppes Vice President Matthew Greenbaum explained to Duty Free Hunter, “The website features a concentrated assortment of the most popular items across the following categories: beauty, liquor, tobacco and confectionery. Users can shop and conduct a transaction anytime from 2 hours – 3 days in advance of their scheduled departure. To make a duty-free purchase, the user just needs to enter their pertinent flight details.
“The duty-free sales are delivered to the gate and handed to the passenger as they board the aircraft. Duty-paid purchases can be either picked up at the store or delivered to the gate. The service is currently limited to JFK Terminal 8, but it will be rolled out to all locations by YE 2017.”
This means that soon travellers flying via major hub airports including New York JFK Terminals 1, 5 and 8, Boston Logan Terminals A, B C & E, Washington Dulles Terminal B – and smaller airports at Bradley and Rhode Island, will be able to shop via their computers, tablets and smartphones.
