Johnnie Walker, travel retail’s #1 brand and #1 Scotch Whisky brand has launched Blue Label Azure, a coastal summer limited edition release available exclusively for global travellers.
This new innovation from Johnnie Walker Blue Label aims to push the boundaries for whisky by moving beyond traditional occasions. It aims to surprise and delight consumers this summer season by placing whisky at the heart of summer celebrations.
Exclusivity and distinctiveness are powerful drivers of purchase in global travel retail, as travellers increasingly seek products that capture the uniqueness of their journey. Nearly one third of all duty-free shoppers are driven by a product that is exclusive or different2.
With the launch of Blue Label Azure, available exclusively in Global Travel, Johnnie Walker is meeting this demand head-on, offering a differentiated expression that cannot be found at home. This focus on exclusivity enhances the appeal of the category while also reinforcing Scotch whisky’s position as a leading choice for discerning travellers looking to elevate their travel experience.
Launching to coincide with the holiday travel season, Johnnie Walker Blue Label Azure has been created to put Blue Label at the centre of summer occasions and has been crafted for luxury coastal moments, perfect for people traveling to warm, beach destinations.
Created by Master Blender Dr Emma Walker, Johnnie Walker Blue Label Azure is a brighter, more coastal expression of the Blue Label flavour profile. The blend of citrus, orchard fruits, gentle smoke and sweetness makes it perfect to enjoy neat, while also providing the vibrancy needed to beautifully contrast with the salinity and oily texture of seafood. The innovation comes with a striking bottle design, created in partnership with renowned Colombian designer Johanna Ortiz, known for her coastal aesthetic.
Johnnie Walker Blue Label Azure will first launch with Avolta UK in London Heathrow Airport from May, followed by major travel hubs including Changi, Incheon, Hong Kong, Bogota, Nice and Paris, as well as other airports around the world. The launch will be supported by airports activations, including a Johnnie Walker Blue Label Azure pop-up tasting bar in London Heathrow Airport Terminal 4, as well as the British Airways corporation lounge and targeted out of home and digital media.
Andrew Cowan, Managing Director at Diageo Global Travel, said: “This launch marks an exciting moment for Global Travel and for Scotch whisky. By introducing Johnnie Walker Blue Label Azure exclusively in travel retail, we are offering travellers something truly distinctive, an innovation they can only discover on their journey. It not only elevates the Blue Label experience for new, seasonal occasions, but also showcases the versatility of Scotch in a way that resonates with today’s luxury traveller seeking unique, memorable moments.”
The bespoke bottle is housed in an exclusive custom bottle bag, designed to live on long after purchase, keeping refreshments cool while serving as a statement accessory and providing effortless transportation for global travellers. The bottle has been created using 100% Post-Consumer Recycled [PCR] glass.
Dr. Emma Walker, Johnnie Walker Master Blender, said: “With Johnnie Walker Blue Label Azure, I wanted to explore a brighter, more coastal expression of the Blue Label flavour profile. The blend opens with vibrant citrus and layered orchard fruits, before soft waves of gentle smoke and sweetness begin to unfold. As it develops, the flavours settle into a smooth, balanced finish that lingers like sea air at the end of the day. It’s a whisky designed to be savoured slowly, revealing new notes with every sip.”
Johnnie Walker Blue Label Azure is available in select airports and cruise ships, in addition to The Johnnie Walker Experience, the brand’s flagship store in Edinburgh.
