Following the hugely successful launch of The Macallan Rare Cask Black across global travel retail, this October saw a new interpretation of this sought after expression. With this new release, the brand have called on a master of visual ambiguity, Steven Klein, to reimagine the look of this uncharacteristic Macallan.

Under the banner of The Macallan Masters of Photography franchise, Rare Cask Black will be presented in a distinctive new presentation box featuring the arresting and provocative art work of Klein. The work previews a new project with the rule-breaking photographer and filmmaker, where a moment in time is captured through his disruptive lens.

Alongside this awe-inspiring artwork, the limited edition of Rare Cask Black will feature the world’s first Ice Baller Double which produces crystal clear ice spheres, an icon of The Macallan serve. Designed in partnership with WinterSmiths, renowned ice experts from the US, the ice baller will allow consumers to craft their own creations at home.

The Macallan Rare Cask Black is truly extraordinary unlike any other Macallan today. It is a Macallan with a surprisingly yet subtle distinctive smoky flavour. This unexpected flavour still gives you the full bodied richness of the spirit’s DNA from 100% sherry seasoned European and American oak casks, of which most are first fill.

Intensity of flavour from a timeless thread of peat smoke, Rare Cask Black combines dried fruits, nutmeg, ginger and beautifully polished oak plus dates, figs and raisins, heavy but sweet. A dry smokiness reveals itself yielding to softer oak tones. The finish is long, fruity with an elegant wood smoke.

Bottled at 48% ABV and non-chill filtered, this edition of Rare Cask Black is limited to 5,000 bottle exclusively in Global Travel Retail with a RRP of $495. It is available from a select number of key airports now.
