Burberry unveils s/s 2016 campaign starring new British talent

It may be only a week until Christmas, but fashion is already looking ahead to springtime. Burberry has unveiled its new Spring/Summer 2016 campaign, shot by Mario Testino under the direction of Christopher Bailey.

The campaign features a stellar cast of bright young things including super cool sisters Ruth and May Bell, the latter of which gained notoriety earlier this year when she shaved her head for Alexander McQueen and bagged a Saint Laurent campaign after Hedi Slimane fell for her buzz cut and elfin features.

The girls star alongside Bella Yentob, the 21-year-old daughter of BBC creative director Alan Yentob and documentary maker Philippa Walker, as well as Hayett Belarbi McCarthy, Eliza Fairbanks and Misha Hart. Male models include Liam Gardner, Sol Goss, Ben Gregory, Louie Johnson and Dylan Brosnan, son of former secret agent Pierce Brosnan.

The cast is dressed, or rather undressed in the case of some photographs, in the ‘Functionregalia’ SS16 collection which features floor-length satin dresses paired with leather biker jackets and regimental tailoring, as well signature Heritage Trench Coats, Scottish-woven scarves and ponchos. Another new face is the Burberry rucksack, inspired by the brand’s military archive.

The design has been reworked as a functional, lightweight carry-all and is expected to be the IT-bag of 2016, having already sold out the moment it appeared on the runway as part of Burberry’s Runway Made to Order allocation.

The campaign features 40 stills, doubling the usual number of images released by a fashion house. It is a figure that has been decided in response to the way in which the brand’s global audiences interact and engage with its content.

Burberry is well known for casting key figures in the world of British fashion as well as a few famous faces. Previous campaign stars include Kate Moss, Cara Delevingne, Naomi Campbell and Suki Waterhouse.

Plus Romeo Beckham, James Bat, James Corden and Julie Walters who all appeared in the brand’s festive campaign.
