Davidoff Cigars has unveiled its new Brazil-inspired Escurio cigar line at a Miami pre-launch event. The line will make its debut in travel retail and duty free markets from September 2015.
Davidoff Escurio follows on the heels of the acclaimed Davidoff Nicaragua line – Cigar Aficionado’s Top 3 cigar of 2013 – in its quest to offer aficionados across the globe diverse and innovative experiences.
“Davidoff Escurio has been crafted for those who are in the mood to discover vibrant and intriguing experiences to fill their time beautifully. If time is one of life’s greatest luxuries, this cigar will fill it with excitement,” says Hans-Kristian Hoejsgaard, CEO of Oettinger Davidoff AG.
Inspired by Zino Davidoff’s pioneering spirit and his passion for experiencing the new, Davidoff Cigars has made it their mission to bring the modern cigar aficionado diverse and innovative cigar experiences.
That mission led the Davidoff Master Blenders to set a new challenge: to craft an exciting Brazilian cigar that delivers an intense spicy and sweet palate stimulation with all the excitement and refined sophistication aficionados would expect from Davidoff. The team found the inspiration in Rio de Janeiro, the soul of Brazil, and in the rhythms, intrigue, and rich experiences of its nights. Each Escurio cigar mixes the Cubra leaves – the fire of the Cuban Criollo refined – and the dark Brazilian Mata Fina leaf pulsating at the heart of this original blend of tobaccos. Dominican filler tobaccos and a Habano Seed Ecuadorian wrapper add a beautiful balance to this unique cigar.
“Get ready for an exciting taste adventure! Rio’s intriguing and rhythmic nights were hugely inspiring for our Master Blenders in helping craft a superb multi-origin blend with the finest Brazilian tobaccos at its core. Davidoff Escurio will take aficionados along on a rewarding taste exploration where sweet meets spice with unexpected twists and turns along the way,” explains Charles Awad, Senior Vice President Global Marketing & Innovation at Oettinger Davidoff AG.
The Davidoff Escurio Robusto was rated the best cigar in the acclaimed Cigar Journal’s spring blind tasting and got an outstanding 93 rating prior to launching in markets: “A true sweet meets spice
experience, an overall masterpiece, an explosion of different notes comparable to a flavor encyclopaedia,” states Cigar Journal’s review.
Moreover, quantitative blind taste panels conducted in Germany and the USA on the new Escurio range have rated the cigar consistently as one of the best cigars ever tested amongst its Cuban, Dominican, Nicaraguan and other tobacco origins.
The intriguing Davidoff Escurio experience
From the beginning, the blend intrigues when spice meets sweet as chilli pepper plays with softer, creamy notes. This is soon complemented in the second third by flavours of oak, liquorice, fruit, salt and leather. Lastly coffee and chilli chocolate flavours arrive culminating in a finale of charming complexity. The cigar is constantly changing in flavours and triggers a new taste experience with twists and turns. In this entertaining and multi layered blend each carefully selected tobacco leaf provides its best and unique characteristic:
– Habano Ecuador wrapper – the beautiful dark, shiny and oily wrapper with its almost invisible veins, provides a soft creaminess, earthy balance and an appetising look.
– Brazilian Cubra binder and filler – the strong and spicy, sun grown Cubra leaves, an originally Cuban Criollo tobacco grown in Brazil, unleash the spicy twists of the blend. Through its thin to medium texture the Brazilian Cubra binder leaf guarantees a straight combustion.
– Brazilian Mata Fina filler – the sweet, sun grown Mata Fina filler leaf delivers exciting sweet turns. The sweetness comes from the perfect interaction of rain and sun to produce a high amount of sugar during the growing season.
– Dominican filler – The Brazilian tobaccos are then complemented by three Dominican Seco tobaccos to balance the blend, resulting in signature Davidoff sophistication.
The Davidoff Escurio range comes in three formats:
Petit Robusto: 50 RG x 3 1/4”
Robusto: 54 RG x 4 1/2”
Gran Toro: 58 RG x 5 1/2”
Wrapper: Ecuador Habana
Binder: Brazilian Cubra
Filler: Mata Fina and Cubra tobaccos from Brazil; San Vicente, Piloto and Olor/Piloto Seco tobaccos from the Dominican Republic.
The line comes in a beautifully crafted Davidoff Escurio wooden cigar box in black with metallic foil features containing 12–14 cigars and an upscale etui of four cigars, both embellished with the recognisable Escurio half-moon icon and will be available at Davidoff Appointed Merchants as of late July 2015 in the US.
To complement the cigar range, Davidoff will be introducing innovative accessories: a stylishly crafted jet flame lighter, a punch cutter and two leather cigar cases.
