New special-edition 14-Year-Old gift pack brings together Bowmore’s heritage and Indian craftsmanship for the festive gifting season.
Bowmore, Islay’s oldest licensed distillery, is celebrating the festive season in global travel retail with the launch of a striking new Kalamkari-inspired gift pack for its Bowmore 14-Year-Old single malt, bringing together the centuries-old artistry of India with the whisky maker’s rich heritage.
At the centre of the design is Kalamkari, a traditional Indian art form, renowned for its intricate hand-drawn or block-printed designs. The name derives from kalam, meaning pen, and kari, meaning craftsmanship or work. For Bowmore, this art form provides a natural point of connection with its own approach to whisky-making – two traditions shaped by time and the human hand.
Islay heritage meets Indian artistry
Designed with premium gifting in mind, the 360-degree collectible packaging includes intricate illustrations, layered textures and shimmering gold detailing across the pack.
The design includes a Kalamkari peacock, chosen as a symbol of celebration, protection and good fortune; Bowmore’s signature sea dragon reimagined in Kalamkari style; and illustrations of the distillery and the iconic No.1 Vaults, one of the world’s oldest Scotch maturation warehouses, alongside fruits and spices to reflect the character of the whisky inside.
Bowmore 14-Year-Old (43% ABV) made its debut in 2024, as part of the Bowmore Appellations travel retail exclusive series, which marked an innovative collaboration with some of the world’s finest wine-producing regions. Matured in American Oak ex-Bourbon casks, and finished in the finest, hand-selected Bordeaux barriques, the resulting character is vibrant with smoke and orchard fruit aromas, enlivened by the berry sweetness of a finish in Bordeaux casks.
Bringing the story to life in travel retail
The Kalamkari story will be brought to life through travel retail activations across the festive season. Key locations include Delhi Duty Free, where a dedicated high-profile promotion (HPP) will run throughout October and November, timed to coincide with Diwali.
London Heathrow and Bengaluru will unveil immersive activations focused on gifting, discovery and flavour. A curated chocolate-pairing experience will give travellers the opportunity to explore the exceptional character of Bowmore expressions, alongside a specially curated chocolate box GWP (Gift With Purchase) to take away.
Vanessa Widmann, managing director, Global Travel Retail (GTR), Middle East and Africa at Suntory Global Spirits, comments: “Diwali is an important time of celebration, connection and gifting for millions of people around the world. We are delighted to collaborate with our travel retail partners on this special-edition that celebrates the artistry of Kalamkari and offers travellers a distinctive gift for the festive season.”
