Byredo introduces three new additions to the Night Veils collection of seductive floral extraits de parfum…

Since Ben Gorham started his fragrance brand Byredo in 2006, the characteristic bottles with the glossy black magnetic caps and minimalist monochrome labels have popped up where ever the cool, trendy, chic but sober hipster is expected to shop for unique fragrances that convey an emotion and stir up wonderment.

Founder Ben Gorham Gorham’s first editions — Green, Chembur, Pulp, Rose Noir, and Gypsy Water — were instant hits and today, the brand counts 42 perfumes in our database, but offers also home fragrances, body care products and high end leather goods.

In October of last year, Byredo launched the first line of their Night Veils, extraits de parfum dedicated to three flowers: lily (Casablanca Lily), jasmine (Midnight Candy) and rose (Reine de Nuit) – night plants known for their seductive and lush aura. It’s not the first time veils are a source of inspiration for the founder of the brand: in 2011 the fragrance Seven Veils was launched, a spicy oriental composition built around the warmth of vanilla flower and Indian sandalwood. In an interview, Gorham explained: “I really like the idea of doing perfume as a veil, in terms of security, and that feeling of covering yourself in something. There’s this biblical reference I remembered from Catholic school, ‘Salam’s dance of seven veils,’ that I thought was a very extreme tale of seduction.”

Now, the Night Veils line is complemented with three more editions, “a new variation of elixirs with a high concentration of noble raw materials, based on a theme chosen by Ben Gorham. Housed in 30 ml onyx glass bottles, the three new compositions draw inspiration from the craft of leatherworking: the delicate hand of the glove maker (Le Gant), the fine skill of the boot maker (La Botte), and the genius of the saddler (La Selle). So precious are these extracts, a mere drop deposited at the nape of the neck using the glass stopper is enough to diffuse their scent for hours on end,” says the brand.

La Selle

“An essential ally of any equestrian, the passionate saddler brings horse and rider together as one. Of the three Night Veils fragrances dedicated to leather, this is undoubtedly the most dynamic. Distinguished, somber, smoky, a truly unbridled concentration of leather.”

La Botte

“The ultimate expression of luxury, the boot maker continues the fine tradition of custom-made footwear to this day. The workshop evokes the smell of new boots still nestled in their box, freshly buffed leather, the patinated wood shoe trees arranged by size on the shelves and the sound of heels click-clacking down the sidewalk.”

Notes
Top: Jasmine Absolute
Heart: Midnight Violet, Civettone
Base: Mahogany wood, Wild Leather

Le Gant

“With historical ties to fragrance, the glove maker’s trade was very deeply intertwined with olfaction. Animal skin requires essences to dissipate its exceedingly wild vapours. Still today, those who work with hides and pelts share a vocabulary with the perfumer. Inspired by the delicate leather that hugs the skin, Le Gant has the suppleness and refinement of a rare hide.”

Notes
Top: Bergamot, Wild Saffron
Heart: Heliotrope, Mimosa
Base: Acai, Cotton Musks, Tuscan Leather, Soft Amber

All new editions of the Night Veils collection, in 30 ml Extraits de Parfum, are already available through the Byredo website, as well as through Barney’s in the US, priced at $550 US. Find them in selected travel retail outlets.
