Bacardi Global Travel Retail has announced the release of CRAIGELLACHIE 37 Year Old Bourbon Cask a new limited edition, crafted under the guidance of Bacardi malt master Stephanie Macleod.

The new 46.5% ABV, non-chill-filtered Speyside whisky will go on sale exclusively with Gebr. Heinemann from 1 June until 31 July this year, after which distribution will widen to include Dufry’s store network and selected domestic markets. Distilled in 1984 and limited to 3,012 bottles, CRAIGELLACHIE 37 Year Old was initially matured in refill casks but was then finished in first-fill bourbon casks, an additional step, allowing the trademark CRAIGELLACHIE muscular style to shine through.

The first-fill ex-bourbon casks impart notes of coconut, vanilla and citrus to the maturing whisky, giving it further depth and complexity. Founded in 1891, by whisky icons Peter Mackie and Alexander Edwards, CRAIGELLACHIE fans are drawn to the robust style of the Speyside whiskies it produces, a result of the distillery’s old-fashioned worm tub condensers.

“CRAIGELLACHIE has always been a bold and brooding malt and this finish in first-fill bourbon casks elevates the signature style of this wonderfully eccentric distillery,” said Bacardi Global Travel Retail Global Head of Marketing Ignacio Vazquez. “First-fill casks are the most active type and result in quicker maturation, adding a very important contribution to the final flavour of the whisky. I am confident travelers will appreciate what a truly special and unique whisky CRAIGELLACHIE 37 Year Old represents.”

Ruediger Stelkens, Director Purchasing LTC at Gebr. Heinemann, said: “We are delighted to add this exceptional whisky exclusively to our spectacular assortment. With its distinctive character this CRAIGELLACHIE is predestined to capturing the hearts of whisky connoisseurs and collectors worldwide. This has been made possible thanks to our strong and trusted partnership with Bacardi Travel Retail.”

Tasting Notes: Pineapple tarte-tatin and custard aromas on the nose, balanced with banana bread and soft cereals. The palate is boldly complex, initially sweetly acidic, and then mellowing with soft fruits and almonds. The finish is long and indulgent.
