Lilly James is to be the new face of Burberry’s pillar fragrance family, My Burberry, taking the place of current faces Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne, whose headline-grabbing joint campaign for the house marked the first time that the two officially worked together. James will launch the brand’s new My Burberry Black scent in August, via a film and print campaign shot by Mario Testino.
My Burberry Black is under wraps for the moment but the brand describes it as “an intense and sensual new fragrance for women.” The new Eau de Toilette reportedly contains notes of jasmine at the top, with the heart of candied roses and peach nectar, and the base of amber and patchouli. The nose behind this fragrance is Francis Kurkdjian.
James is perhaps best known for her roles as Lady Rose in Downton Abbey, as Cinderella in the film of the same name and as Natasha Rostova in the BBC adaptation of War and Peace. This summer she will star as Juliet in a production of Romeo and Juliet, directed by Kenneth Branagh and Rob Ashford, at London’s Garrick Theatre. The My Burberry partnership marks her first ever global advertising campaign.
