Mulberry, known for some of its tough, hard-wearing leathers, has revealed a softer side with the launch of its new Softie bag line.

It’s a big departure for the brand and the company said the name is inspired by the bags’ “distinctive, pillowy feel” with the new collection of quilted bags coming in three styles.

Described as its “sensory” new bag family, the emphasis is on softness and texture. The bags are made from high-quality Nappa Leather that’s environmentally accredited, with a smooth finish and feature the brand’s “unique take on curved quilting… filled with thick, sumptuous feather down”. The filling is “responsible down” and the linings are recycled nylon.

The Softie also includes the brand’s signature design codes, incorporating the Postman’s Lock but against the softer silhouette and a palette of bold colours.

The main Softie bag style comes with a leather top handle as well as a new paper clip chain shoulder strap to be worn hands-free. Two other styles are also available: Little Softie, whose long chain strap can be worn across the body, or doubled up and worn as a shoulder bag; and Big Softie, a tote carry-all.

They come in colours ranging from coral orange to cornflower blue and wild primrose, in addition to classic black and tobacco brown.
