ATU Duty Free has begun operating new duty free stores and providing travellers with other services at Oman’s Salalah Airport.
A large 727m2 shop is situated on the departure floor and another 117m2 shop is located on the arrival floor. Adding to this, the company will operate all food and beverage areas in the terminal.

Remarking on the news was general manager, ATU Duty Free, Ersan Arcan: “Salalah is an important port in the Middle East with a planned six million passenger capacity. The rapid increase in the number of passengers strengthened our belief in the potential of the market in Oman. Last year we successfully bid for the management and operation of duty free, retail and F&B areas at Salalah Airport. We have also transferred the know-how of BTA (the company’s specialist F&B division) to this project.”

Arcan enthused: “We celebrate our opening with them and would like to take this opportunity to give our thanks for all the support and dedication of the Oman team. Salalah International Airport is the second largest airport in the Sultanate of Oman. It started operations in 1977 as a domestic airport and turned international in 2004. Salalah is a major tourist destination in Oman because of the city’s cooler climate in summers.

The new terminal at the Salalah International Airport is designed for a capacity of six million passengers. It is being built in four stages, with the first stage completed in 2014. Stage one will expand the airport’s passenger capacity to one million passengers a year. Stage two, three and four will respectively expand the capacity to two, four and six million passengers a year.
