Loch Lomond Group has taken home a total of 32 awards from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, including a record 14 Double Gold medals across the Group’s portfolio.

The independent distiller, which can trace its roots back to 1772, crafts a range of whisky styles including classic single malts Loch Lomond Whiskies and Glen Scotia, as well as an innovative single grain variant, Spearhead, and its latest blended malt Nobel Rebel – all of which received exceptional praise from judges.

Loch Lomond Group’s global travel retail range placed highly in the competition, with GTR exclusives Loch Lomond 8 Years Old Madeira Cask, Loch Lomond 18 Years Old Inchmurrin, and Glen Scotia Campbeltown Harbour 10 Years Old Cask Strength all taking the coveted top Double Gold Award. Loch Lomond 14 Year Old Inchmoan and Glen Scotia 1832 both received a Gold.

Founded in 2000, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition is the largest and most prestigious spirits competition in the world.

Throughout four days of highly controlled blind tastings, the competition’s experienced judging panels taste every product to decide if it is medal-worthy. Judges do not receive any information on producer or price point, ensuring each spirit is judged fairly, equally, and without bias.

Gold medals are awarded to “exceptional spirits that are near the pinnacle of achievement”, with Double Gold presented to the entries that receive a Gold medal rating by all members of the judging panel.

Loch Lomond Group’s record number of award wins is testament to the distiller’s unique approach to whisky making, led by Master Blender, Michael Henry.

The distiller’s placement in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition follows a period of significant growth and development for the Group, with the launch of new product innovation in Noble Rebel and Spearhead in the past 18 months.

Andrew Jack, Head of Whisky Marketing at Loch Lomond Group, said:

“For Loch Lomond Group to have been awarded so highly across our portfolio is a tremendous achievement.

“We consistently strive to grow and develop our brands, placing significant investment on innovation. Global travel retail remains an important channel for us, and we have placed a lot of focus on developing exclusive expressions which showcase our diverse and creative whisky making styles, that appeal to travellers around the world.

“To have five global travel exclusive expressions receive the top Double Gold and Gold Awards is a real acknowledgement of the work that has gone into growing this category, and our unwavering dedication to innovation and quality.

“It’s a significant milestone for the Group, and we look forward to celebrating at the awards in June.”

Outwith global travel retail, Loch Lomond Whiskies was presented with a total of 17 medals in the Double Gold, Gold and Silver categories, receiving the competition’s highest level of recognition for the brand’s core range, including Loch Lomond Inchmurrin 12 Year Old and Loch Lomond Inchmoan 12 Year Old. Its collection of golf-inspired single malts, crafted in homage to the brand’s longstanding partnership with The Open, were awarded Double Gold. The brand’s duo of limited single grain releases, unveiled earlier this year, were also placed highly, with Loch Lomond Single Grain Cooper’s Collection Mizunara Cask Finish taking Double Gold and Loch Lomond Single Grain Distiller’s Choice taking Silver.

Campbeltown-based Glen Scotia was awarded 11 medals, including five Double Gold medals for Glen Scotia 15 Year Old, Glen Scotia 25 Year Old, and Glen Scotia Victoriana.

The newest brand in the Loch Lomond Group portfolio, Noble Rebel, received a medal for each of its three expressions, with Orchard Outburst taking Double Gold, Smoke Symphony taking Gold, and Hazelnut Harmony taking Silver.

Spearhead single grain Scotch whisky also took home Gold, securing the brand’s first placement in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition since launching in 2021.
