Tourvest Inflight Retail Services (TIRS) has announced that its partnership with South African Airways Voyager – ‘Africa’s leading World Class Frequent Flyer Programme’ has been given a big boost, following the airline’s decision to broaden the spending power of its air ‘Miles’ programme.

Under this new enhanced service, SAA Voyager members can also spend their Miles shopping for duty free products online at, in addition to gaining Miles rewards when buying duty free products.

This announcement was made at a launch event in Rosebank, Johannesburg, where SAA Executive for Customer Loyalty Suretha Cruse stated: “We are making every effort to present our valued members with more choices for their Miles.

“By launching the redemption partnership with TIRS, we provide our members with more opportunities to utilise their Miles. We want to be part of our members’ lifestyle and to each and every one of them we say, we would like to be Forever Part of Your Journey!”

TIRS management says its partnership with SAA continues to grow from strength to strength and this new service will allow passengers ‘to earn, as well as burn’ their Voyager Miles when purchasing duty free products from the SAA range.

“This partnership now allows travellers to still benefit from their loyalty programme membership by burning their Voyager Miles to purchase duty free products. It is also easier to part with your Voyager Miles to spoil oneself or purchase gifts for family and friends, rather than having to open your wallet to reach for your credit card or cash,” said Jones.

Voyager Miles can be earned on all inflight duty free purchases made on SAA regional and international flights exceeding two hours. Under the new service, travellers purchase online via at least three days prior to international departure, with the product delivered to their seat upon boarding.

Purchases can be made up to 14 weeks before the flight date, but must be purchased at least three days before departure. The site also includes discount offers and promotions.

This new enhanced partnership will see Voyager members spending Miles for the purchase of duty free products solely online. Both SAA and Tourvest are now working towards introducing spending Voyager Miles onboard in a phased approach.
